Every firm I’ve ever been at or heard about from every lawyer I have ever known.
Fuck. That’s what I thought. It’s SO frustrating! Why can’t it be like on Suits where your assistant can basically read your mind? 😆
Yup. I dealt with this at my current firm and it’s a huge part of the reason why I gave my notice. When doing admin starts to affect my billables and subsequently, my review and my bonus, I’m not tolerating it.
I feel I can’t trust them. I have to micromanage them because they can’t figure things out on their own, it seems. I will write down specific instructions and they don’t follow them, so I have to re-review their work (such a waste of time!!). I’m frustrated because it’s wasting time I could have spent billing. Any advice? Is it like this at all firms?
This generally happens when partners try to cut costs on admin or support staff. The low salaries attract inexperienced candidates who simply don’t care. The only way to change things is to increase the salary of these staff, which will attract better candidates.
Or worse.....very experienced candidates who give 0 fucks and bounce firm to firm every couple of years.

I relate to this. Since I started at my firm, I have experienced zero accountability for the admin. Partners make excuses for them, blame the associates and undermine the associates. You dont want to do it...,thats okay. Your email must kiss their a**. I get that admin get respect (especially when they have been with the firm awhile) but seriously, attorneys are expected to have no feelings and take everything while caring and watching everyone else’s feelings. How about admin do admin work and attorneys bill?
