I work in accounting/finance and have been at my company for over 10 years. I am planning to leave and put in my notice right after I receive my bonus which is right around when “busy season” starts. Unfortunately more than half of my annual income comes from my bonus. I feel terrible about this because it will cause my team to work extra hours during a busy time, but the company is toxic. Any tips? I don’t want to burn bridges with the non-toxic folks.

If your company thought laying you off would save money what would they do?

I think you can make it all about the new job opportunity you couldn’t turn down- as a way of softening the blow. You could casually mention you feel bad about the timing- but, I would only say it once. Not keep apologizing or bringing it up.
I bet they know you well enough to know you don’t want to leave your co-workers in a tight spot. (But just keep in mind- they would probably do the same).

You say the company is toxic, but you are in a fairly senior position for several years.
Be honest with the people you already have good relationship with, and it should work out. But it sounds like a rocky situation. You may just need to keep your head down.

Your loyalties are misdirected (though I sincerely appreciate loyal and considerate coworkers). Be loyal to yourself. If after 10 years this is a toxic environment, they’re certainly not loyal to you.

As far as accounting advisory (CMAAS, FAAS, Etc) anyone have opinions on big 4 vs a more niche firm like Houlihan lokey or A&M? Currently at big 4 and thinking of moving out of audit, but not sure what the best next move is. As I understand it the smaller firms are more middle market, but can pay better and have better WLB? Anybody have any ideas on exit opps/other pro's and cons to consider? Thanks for your help!

Moving on from Hotels (Hospitality)?

I’ve been thinking about this for awhile now, but it is very to commit to actually accept a new job offer since I really do love my job. My only complaint is, the pay vs workload is very small. I’m a manager now and my property offered me a director position… but the salary is still low! To make six figures, it’ll take another 5-6 years to grind it out.

Should I move on and go to a different industry? Opinions are welcome! Thanks in advance.

How do you know your true worth? And once you know, how do you make sure you get it?

I am on a team that manages relationships with the banks that hold brokerage accounts for a large Asset Management firm. I have gained an enormous amount of experience (relationship mgmt, project mgmt, analysis), and compensation is decent - $85k base with $25k bonus - but I have no idea what my top earning potential would be if I switched companies or pursued another role. What is the best way to find out?

Looking for advice! I’ve been in the banking for approximately 10 years in risk/Compliance. I left my role several months ago and I’m having trouble landing a job in the banking sector. Hiring managers say the interviews went great but then crickets. I am feeling that this is no longer for me. Would a career coach help me pivot to another career. I keep falling back to what I know and it’s no longer working. Thanks!

I am so beyond ready to leave my current job, but can’t yet, since bonuses are paid out in January. 😬

In the meantime, I’ve applied to a lot of similar roles (slightly higher) but have not heard - good or bad - from any. Is it common for companies to slow down hiring in December because of Q4 rush, people on holiday, etc.?

I applied to a job at KPMG and did the first two rounds of interviews, general interview, then case study and competency. Never before have I had such a positive feedback at the end of an interview of the 2nd, both said really like me, I did well etc.
It's now been 3 weeks since the interview and I still haven't heard back from the team other than the odd HR email saying they are following up with them. Is there something going on internally, I.e hiring freeze in the London office atm?
