I work in financial services and am looking to get out of public accounting. I’ve been targeting companies outside of FS as I find them more interesting. Now a bank client of mine is hiring a controller….if I went for this role I think I’d get it. By leaving for this type of role am I pigeonholing myself I’m banking?

Not really I don’t think. People can move on from being a controller into other roles. Especially within your organization if you’re good at your job and are intelligent overall. The controller at my brother’s firm, a large hedge fund, was recently promoted to CFO after the CFO retired. So something like this could happen

And if you were concerned about the banking industry specifically, I’d agree that that could somewhat limit your options for future positions, but it’s really secondary. Being able to network well and just having a good idea of what’s going on at a high level can be invaluable in helping you advance in your career

Currently I work for a mid-sized InsureTech that’s had 2 rounds of layoffs in the past 6 months. Salary is 100k, with no defined bonus. I have close to 4 years of PO experience. I am debating whether I want to leave since my boss is very chill and I have amazing WLB. Benefits are eh. 15 PTO days and healthcare premiums are okay. Should I jump ship? What could I be making at a bigger company? What types of companies are most stable right now?

As some one who’s on the left political spectrum, there are some things I just don’t understand

1) What is genuinely wrong with universal, free healthcare provided by a government entity ?

2) Why is there opposition to taxing the super rich at 70%?

3) Is it not clear that electoral campaigns sponsored by corporations are problematic for a democratic society ?

4) Everyone says “get an education” but that’s impossible with high costs. Why not make tuition free of charge ?
