The teams I consult for have added bonus structures
A lot of the “smart” companies I work with will offer a bonus on top of salary. Depends on the company but it’s either 100% based on performance or 50% company performance and 50% employee performance. Metrics can be anything from amount of bugs in code, to number of lines of code, to handling specific projects well, etc.
Additional bonus structure is common and preferred by candidates. Not every employer offers it, but for those that don't there needs to be really attractive pay and benefits to offset it.
Bonus 1x per year, it helps with retention as well because people want to wait until they get their bonus to look and by that time maybe they’ve changed their minds!
