I work in Insurance, but have antifraud background. I received a job offer for AML and the pay is lower, yet I know it is something that interests me more.

I tried asking if they had any higher budget for the position, but its not the case and gross salary is 5k lower than my current one... what should I do?

Honestly, $5k doesn't really make that much of an impact. Personally, I feel it's more important to find a balance of sustainable pay AND a job I enjoy and find fulfilling. There are plenty of roles I could take where I'd be making a lot more than what I'm making now, but I'd probably be miserable going to work every day. I'd rather make a small sacrifice financially to be happy in what I do.

Thank you very much that is what I also think. Yet on the other hand I see the current economic situation and the inflation there is in Europe right now, and that's what scares me in taking such a decision.

There are a few things you can do in this situation. First, you could try to negotiate for a higher salary. However, if the company is unwilling to budge, you may need to weigh your other options. One option could be to accept the position and see if you can negotiate a raise after you have started working there.

Thank you so much. I asked if they had an internal review regarding the salaries (because of inflation rates - i.e. my current company is going to raise 5% all salaries this year). Their answer was no because apparently they are have the higher salaries in this specific niche sector... I have time until Monday to give an answer

One option could be to look for other jobs that offer a higher salary. Whichever route you decide to take, make sure you weigh all of your options and make the decision that is best for you. After all, if you have a good resume and experience, you should be able to find a job in a lot of different companies, so don't feel bad if you decide against taking this one opportunitiy.

Thanks for your comment. The thing is that this company is very good and interesting to me, the opportunity and JD is also great...

If it's a job you like more or have more interest in than I would take it and try to petition for a raise in 6 months to a year.

like

I believe that if it's something you actually enjoy doing, you'll progress at a higher pace than being stuck in a position that limits your interests and abilities. You can apply for a raise a couple months down the line.

like

If you think that you will enjoy it more, then it is totally worth it. Think about it as if you are paying for a course and see if you can recover that money in the next 5 years.

Are there any other benefits that this new position would offer that may make up for the 5k salary difference? Additional PTO? Lower insurance premiums? Higher 401k match? Pension? Internet/ Car/ living stipends depending if it’s a relocation, WFH, or on the road type of job? Sometimes companies that are strict on salary when hiring can offer additional benefits elsewhere. OR you might realize your current companies benefits are way better and it would be more than a 5k difference to your lifestyle.

like

Try asking yourself the question in reverse. If you had the 2nd job, would you leave it to take your current job for a $5000 raise?

OP- did you end up taking the job?

It is 5,000 above what I said my minimum was, but is significantly more than my current salary. Thanks for any input :)

Help... I have an analyst on my account who is the project manager.... 2 years at firm.... but, often doesn't produce an agenda (making me scramble) and then on other calls doesn't take notes? Or share screen? She also schedules calls without asking resulting in time wasted and me asking "did you ask if this time worked for everyone?.... and she didnt ask... and they didn't accept either). We've already talked to her about her role - setting up calls, taking notes, etc. 😑🤯 wtf......

I think this offer is well below par, but curious to hear what you guys think/if you have any comparisons?

What you should do when dealing with a very toxic worker that keep on sending passive aggressive messages to you as well as in group chat and email.
Things like when you answer his question he respond: I know that
Or when he keeps on saying my change requests were just minor in group meeting but actually not.
And keep on saying how hard he works when he clearly wasn’t and already underperformed compared to an intern level.

How to not let this toxic co-worker not poison me any further?
