Another reason could be there is a good amount of tech workspace who are immigrants and they don’t have a chance to work for companies in the government space.
People in this industry have become more money oriented.
I've always been interested but never really got my foot in the door so gave up. Still want to try down the line though

Well first off the cleared space is cleared. And the majority of people are not cleared. The money isn’t good. And most people with the skills either worked there and left or are still working there but are abiding by rules of keeping it hush hush
I said this on another comment earlier, but I will admit you won't make $400k in government spaces, but you definitely can make $200-$300k pretty easily.
Also, getting cleared actually isn't difficult, just have to find the right company
Also, the sponsorship isn't expensive. A company will tell you that but they aren't the ones performing your poly and investigation
I can only speak from my experience with this particular agency but it is 11 years (total) of experience in the cleared space
