No. Should target 20% to go to Industry. Please note that once you sign the offer letter annual growth will be not more than 2-3 percent unless you get promoted. Promotion is very difficult to come by in industry

If pay is the only driver, then why is this even a question? Unless you want to get paid less.

You need to weigh a lot of other things around benefits, work life balance, travel requirements, etc.

Which company?

Details? Location? Current travel vs proposed? Retirement/bonuses?

What’s your bonus target in industry? 401k match has to be higher. ESPP?

I feel like you are underpaid currently. Might also consider another consulting firm. To your question we would need to understand what the total comp looks like including bonus, options, etc.

No ...

Total comp isn’t attractive - all in (including options and year end bonus) gets me back to my base. Without mentioning too much about the company; it is a tech company - small. It has had some major issues; they are basically hitting the “restart” button and brought in a few new executives (including CEO).

However the job responsibility is attractive; it’s the typical help with strategy and M&A: buy, build or partner. Very small deal team (3 in total including my position).

I’m not in an exit opp mindset but am looking to (long term) go in house in corporate....

In short: $$$ is terrible but job is great.

Ok, if it’s always been your plan to go in-house then it makes sense why you are considering this position. But why a small and volatile company? Keep looking and find a growing organization with experienced/well-set leadership that will pay you a premium over your current salary to join them. Meanwhile, gun for an SM role at your company

It's not always a bad thing to join a company that needs a turn around. If you pull it off, you come out a hero. You just need to believe there's a big upside on the horizon if you execute correctly

Thanks all. I think that’s right - the only real attractive story is the turnaround - if it gets pulled off then I’ve got a great story to tell.

Also I’m a bit skeptical about my own ability to stay longer where I’m at (ie make SM or Director) and get into Corp Dev ... expectations will be much different. I had another Corp dev offer but the salary expectation was way lower ....

This is a hard one ...

Recently received an offer to go from plaintiff-side PI to family law. Offer is significantly more than my base currently is and would likely be more than total take-home in most years. The family law firm is tiny. Thoughts on work-life balance in family law compared to PI?
