I am in their role and hate when people ask questions and probe indirectly on the Urgent vs Important 2x2. Maybe test their ask in that matrix relative to your other priorities.

Your a senior analyst. What's "going above your head" even mean?
It means that when I tell them that there's something I can't do for them (usually because their request was too last minute, or would cost too much), they try to escalate to someone else on my team (who is ranked higher in the firm), despite having the same job/ and despite the fact that the answer is still no.
Or if they're unhappy with something I did, they don't confront me and instead try to talk to whoever they assume I report to.
My team role isn't ranked, we all work adjacently, despite the different levels of the members
Hmm, yeah I could divert the deciding pressure to project priority so they don't get stuck on the idea of me *personally* saying no. Thanks that's really useful
