I work remote for 60k with 5 years of experience as a staff accountant, I sometimes get upset that I don’t get paid enough/not challenged enough. I had a great interview with a nonprofit that’s hybrid but almost 20k more than I what I make now. I will lose some of the flexibility I have but get paid more. Is it worth it?

5 years for 60k seems very low.

Double check your commuting expenses. Do you need to pay for parking and tolls? That could really decrease your salary. Also consider whether this job will open up new options later on.

like

Yeah, people are just looking at the figure. WLB, benefit, commute time and flexibility are all considered.

I make 106k with bonus 2 years into my career. I also wfh 100% in LCOL

likefunny

Cool story bro, OP didn't ask about how much you get paid 😎

like

Depends how often you have to go into the office and what your commute is like. Also how does the wlb compare?

like

Have you negotiated with new firm for WFH option? If WFH is optional, you definitely go for it.

like

You should look around and compare packages, including WFH and what the increase in cash means for you. 20k increase is a big bump up at your level. The longer you stay in your current role, the less easy it will be to move and get a pay bump because employers will assume you've not progressed and are happy to undersell yourself. Good luck!

like

20k doesn’t make a huge difference after tax deduction. I think you’d better look at glassdoor for the company to see their work and life balance.

We get that, but the point is that a 20k increase from 60k is a huge deal and big enough to consider the trade off in WLB. Totally agree with you if OP is already making 150k.

In ‘08 they created deferred comp plan for 8 employees not on mgt team ($50k/yr, 10-yr annuity at 65). They refuse to add others, saying it was mistake. I work hard but no upside. I want to stay (primary breadwinner). Need suggestions for how to break thru the log jam. Thx!

I resigned from my old work place (was a pretty disorganised). On my last day both HR and my manager didn't do any exit interview or ask me to sign anything. I had to reach out to them several times and tell them that it was my last day and I had left my security pass/equipment at reception etc.

So I've noticed this month they have continued to pay me.

I've texted to my old manager and told him that, but knowing the org. I'm not convinced he will action it. Was planning to email HR.

Thoughts?
