Masks work if you wear the correct mask, which most students don’t. I wear mine to protect myself. All the students take them off as soon as they get outside nd then are just in each other’s faces. Our administration keeps telling us we are in a “low risk environment” like going to the grocery store. That is not what my doctor thinks and he strongly recommended the booster because of my working conditions. I am so frustrated and sick of it all!
Remember not everyone is low risk. Patients with asthma or other conditions are at higher risk. I think my doctor knows what he is talking about.
As an educator I can see the debate has merits on both sides. My point is we should be less hysterical and more logical on the subject. Recognize there are people who manipulate truths during crisis’ to make money through panic anxiety and fear. If a masks makes you feel like you are doing your part please wear your mask. If a mask is not something you are inclined to do, don’t wear one. Just please don’t use your POV to bludgeon someone who has a different one. At least as long as we have open borders and corruption of current magnitude in control of the information flow.
I can't explain it. Nor can I explain why adults in general are cautioned to stay 6 feet apart, but 3 feet is fine for kids in school. Very little makes sense these days. I just do the best I can. And pray. I pray a lot.
The 6-foot rule was based off the (very false) assumptions that covid was passed by water droplets. Now that we know that it aerosolized, 6 feet of social distancing is pointless. Once it's in the air, it goes all over the room. How good the ventilation is makes a much bigger difference than how far apart you are.
Ask CDC they use science to report masks are less than 23% effective at stopping Covid transmission
Masks are not being worn all over the world. Many places don’t wear them and the omicron rates are falling like rocks. https://www.theguardian.com/world/2022/jan/19/boris-johnson-announces-end-to-all-omicron-covid-restrictions-in-england
If masks were ineffective, then why do surgeons where them after it was discovered that the mask prevents disease and infection….
Surgical masks are meant to protect the wearer from blood/fluids. They don't really do much for airborne particles.
Masks are effective. They are being worn all over the world right now.

I am for masks.
Israel has the biggest vaccine rate in the world with people quadruple vaccinated, everyone wears a mask, and it has the highest Covid numbers right now. Switzerland has no mask mandate and very few people wear them. No higher Covid rates than other countries.
And just 400 per 100k with a low mortality rate. I wouldn't call that emergency measures worthy.

It’s like every other school policy. If you try to make sense of it, you will slowly go insane. We have a mask mandate, but kids are still playing contact sports without masks as if Covid is a sports fan who is ignoring the wrestling team. 😂
Masks will slow down transmission; however, not reception. Take a moment and watch the Mythbusters

Let them have memories and experiences without a mask ruining their photos. Try to do a cardiovascular activity in a mask. Sick but they recover and come back to school 🥴 that tends to be the part they leave out.
I know what you mean. Our students have to be masked unless they are outside or in the cafeteria eating.
We really need to stop worrying about kids getting it, anyway. They have almost zero chance of dying from it. And we need to stop trying to protect their grandparents...their grandparents can do what they want.

At the school I’m at we don’t have any sporting events. And I’m for mask also, but the school aren’t protecting us at all. It doesn’t matter if students come with Covid . Just to keep parents happy. We have become baby sitter!
Were we ever not the babysitters? Since the mid-1980s ...
Our district is consistent with it (masks required for anything indoors on campus). But yeah, if they're requiring them sometimes and not others, that doesn't make much sense. Pick a lane and go with it.
Great question! Masks obviously slow the spread, not stop it, but slows it. In August, our small district was reporting 50+ positive cases a week. Masks weren't required. Our superintendent ended up mandating masks at all events, only allowing kids to eat in their classroom, and only allowing kids to play with their class @ recess, and the numbers dropped to 1, 2, or no cases in a week through Dec. Since coming back from Christmas, because our numbers were so low, masking was optional again. Currently...50+ cases a week, and a staff shortage from illness. I wish the mitigation would come back even if only for a month.
