We’re taking 4yo to Legoland soon, I heard it is less overwhelming
Great wolf lodge is fun for a weekend.
Disneyland (not World). 2 days. Make an appointment at the Bippity Boutique. My four year old loved it. Not too crowded.
Bippity Boppity Boutique is still closed for the makeovers, so it retail only. Disneyland is definitely fun for 5 year olds- I have a recently turned 4 yo and 6yo and we’ve been going a lot lately. Mid-week mornings/before 2pm is usually the least crowded.

We are going to Disney world in December with our 5 yo! Yes it’s busy and yes it’s overwhelming but I’m willing to deal with it because she loves it. (Has been 4 times already starting with when she was 2… this will be our first trip back since Feb 2020.)
Thanks everyone. Any other ideas for a kid other than Disney land, any resorts or such?
What does she like to do? Does she like animals, swimming, or?
Dark night sky - Goggle the phrase and see if there is anywhere near you. Typically you will stay in the middle of nowhere… hang out with family and live slow.
Look at the “unique stays” in Airbnb near you. There are tree houses and glamping tents. Maybe something there will sound interesting.
Anything can be fun with a sense of adventure, good storytelling and time together.
places like https://www.citymuseum.org or https://sandiegozoowildlifealliance.org or https://fantasticcaverns.com or 3-hour ferry ride to San Juan Islands
Aulani is fun too. Your daughter will get to see Disney characters in a relaxing environment (it’s Hawaii!) and it’ll be a nice vacation for you too. Character Dining Reservations book 30 or 60 days in advance, so you might be too late for some of that stuff, but can always keep trying.
We started age 5 and we take our kids to a different National Park each year. It has been great and we incorporate other surrounding attractions when appropriate. Ie: we did Disneyland with Yosemite, Joshua Tree and Sequoia and made that one a major vacation. We try to do major vacations every 3 years or so. We do closer parks in the in-between years.
Thanks everyone. We are leaning towards Disney world. But looks like all the resorts are sold out. Does anyone know if it will be too far if we stay at a property outside Disney?

I’ve never stayed off site so can’t comment on that. But a suggestion - try the Swan or Dolphin? They aren’t Disney properties but they’re actually on site (and in my favourite area to stay at!)
