Hi! I had a c-section for number two a couple weeks ago, after my labor stalled; also had a vaginal delivery for my first. The first 1-2 days post surgery I was so freaked out about the recovery, I was hyper aware of my incision and felt like it was so uncomfortable to do basic things like get out of the hospital bed or turn on my side - I was so sad thinking about how the recovery would be a long road ahead.
That said, about 4 days postpartum my incision was less sensitive (could barely feel it, took one ibuprofen a day) and I felt like a new person. I'm about 2 weeks postpartum now and I can walk long distances and go up/down stairs easily and I'm not on any pain meds. I actually feel comfortable enough to want to workout but am planning to hold off until 6+ weeks. The nurse told me I could continue to walk as much as I want and I just need to be conscious of twisting movements and avoid carrying heavy things (they say nothing heavier than your baby, and even avoid carrying the carseat with baby inside or maneuvering it on to stroller). Baby wearing should be fine and if you want to do the stroller, you can get someone to help set up the stroller for you to take those walks.
Congratulations, wishing you health and an easy recovery ahead!

Hi - as someone who was average active pre-birth, and had an unplanned c-section after 50hr labor, don’t worry! I was taking walks from my first day home from hospital (including walking to a mom’s group where I sat on the floor for two hours!).
I loved my daily walks and had the all clear to go running at 6-weeks pp. I’m not super athletic by any means, but it felt great to be able to open up and do short run. (Just checked Runkeeper - it was a 36-min 5k loll).
From what I’ve heard a scheduled c-section is even easier, as your body hasn’t gone through the “marathon” of labor first.
Either way, don’t worry!!
I had a c section twice. I walked a lot before and after c section with a baby carrier with twins and did just fine. No issues walking while carrying the babies. I too need to walk for my mental health, walking saved me during pregnancy and postpartum. I found it very therapeutic and helpful for weight management as well.
I had a vaginal delivery for my first, sustained a 3rd degree tear and therefore had a scheduled C-section for my second. It was so much easier, I can’t even describe. I was up and about within a couple of days, a bit sore for around 2 weeks (especially when sneezing or laughing) but completely able to do everything as normal including going for many long walks (agree, it’s what keeps you sane!). Of course everyone is different but I wouldn’t worry about it. Good luck!!
I was up
And walking very comfortably the day after my c-section. I tried a vaginal delivery but did not progress so we opted for an unplanned section. Best decision ever. The recovery times now are much shorter than years past.
Rising Star
My friend has two c-sections, and she swears the recovery for her second took longer because she did not get up and walk around as quickly after the surgery. She walked after the first surgery the next day, but for the second surgery the nurses didn’t push her to walk until three days after, and she said it was much harder to recover in general. Both were planned c-sections.
After my planned c-section, I was going for short walks with the dog at the end of the first week and 40 min+ walks with the baby and a dog after the 2nd week (I waited to ask the doctor at the 2 week visit). I took otc painkillers for 2 weeks but probably could have done with less time. Scar area felt a bit sensitive occasionally at 6-10 wk pp but no issues with activities.
