Hi everyone! having tackled virtual onboarding personally I wanted to write about my experience to help new starters and managers go through the process. I also spoke to two friends (one starting at Deloitte and the other at an early stage startup). Hope it helps you all! hipr.pl/37DgkAm

It’s really not that bad. Use video calls for all meetings, schedule intro meetings on people’s calendars during the first few weeks and ask questions. Virtual onboarding really isn’t that different than in-person onboarding
Trust me, you will be on video calls for 8 hours a day, it will feel just like in-person
When I was at the firm, my team didn’t use video nor cared to actually.
I’ve actually appreciated the video calls at my new job, it makes the interaction easier for the time being. Also, new team has been very accommodating and helpful. They created a onboarding guide & agenda for me on what to do or expect next few months. Just set up 5-10 mins with different people in the department you’ll work with, find out from your manager who you’re expected to work with so you can take initiative to introduce yourself to them.
I have the opposite experience - my new agency is almost always camera off and as draining as video calls are, I miss seeing faces and getting the personal connection/recognition. Definitely think it’s making the transition harder
Are you joining or leaving kpmg?
I’m a senior... I can do PA. Can’t deal with some nasty people and politics anymore. Not that I’m saying that KPMG doesn’t have politics.. but I just need a new environment for my mental health... and a pay raise and nicer team
