I’d be curious for peoples thoughts on permanent life insurance. We’re early 30s, 2 kids. We can very likely comfortably afford the big up front investment for the next 15 years or so. It feels like putting the money to work in equities is a better play but don’t want to write this off if it’s worth it. Right now I’d say our net worth is around 1.5 with 55% equities. 30% home equity, 10% preferreds, 5% cash.

If you need insurance use term. Take the savings and invest. Permanent insurance is high fees and commissions. No need for it for the vast majority of people.

I have an insurance license but almost never recommend permanent insurance. There are occasional situations in which it makes sense though. -Will you have estate issues later? Given your current net worth an age, this is possible if you keep saving at an accelerating rate. - do you have a pension that pays out significantly less in survivor benefit? - are you well beyond your retirement goals otherwise where you will undoubtedly have excess when you die? There are also multiple types of permanent. Some have a place and some never have a place (even though they are often sold)

I work in insurance defense and we are getting slammed as far as workload and have been for some time. It’s nice because I haven’t had to beg for billable work and always hit my goals. My question is whether this has been the norm at other insurance defense firms. My other question is how other states are dealing with COVID restrictions on jury trials. Has anyone tried anything during the pandemic?

Curious if anyone has experienced companies that require COVID Vaccine if hired? I was told today that it is required for a company, and this isn't a healthcare organization. I have no issues with the vaccine, however I thought about it as a Talent Acquisition Manager. I'm not sure I'm comfortable relaying to candidates that it is a requirement since it's a personal choice. Any feedback? Just curious what is happening in the market.

Took my first ever sick day today on account of my very poor and worsening mental health. Just could not bring myself to put in another 14 hour day with back to back meetings and constant activity. Felt very guilty but I honestly wish I could be more honest and actually share with my manager about why I took a day off. For those also going through this, any tips on how you manage yourself day to day? What self talk tends to help?

For those recently laid off, what are you doing for healthcare coverage now? Just got my COBRA offer/extension letter and was floored to see the cost. So far I’ve only looked at covered California at the suggestion of a friend but at a glance the plans don’t seem substantially better - the monthly savings in premium on those plans is essentially offset by the increased deductible. Do I just suck it up and keep what I had through COBRA and pray I get a job soon? Any suggestions on ways to save?

What are the other levels of salaries other than biglaw and insurance defense? I only know of my limited experience in (1) a very small firm that paid me $50k as 1st year and $55k as 2nd year; (2) a big insurance defense firm that paid me $80k as 3rd year, $91k as 4th year, and $103k to start my 5th year; and (3) another insurance defense firm that started me at $130k in my mid-5th year. I also know what the biglaw people make only based off the attorney meme pages that have been posting it.

Context, I am currently at Deloitte US and thinking of requesting a USI transfer because of a serious health issue for one of my parents. Would be really thankful if someone can clarify 1)Will parents existing conditions/treatment (Chemotherapy ) be covered from my day of joining and 2) Will sum assured will reset every year (if yes, then when, January or our FY). Thank you
