Spent 4+ years as CMO of startup company. It was an incredible learning experience but also a very difficult uphill battle trying to steer the owners and the company in the right direction. I’ve just exited the company as of 11/18. The owners expected to storm the marketplace and emerge as a number one brand at only 6 years old without putting in the work.Company had a very hard time understanding the concept of a unique value proposition. Hoping to find a new remote (full time) position ASAP

A black square on the Insta wasn’t enough? You don’t say.

I prefer to not accuse them of not doing anything, since what they're doing is still good to normalize the conversation.
Instead, I prefer to approach it with "that's great, and we appreciate it, but now it's time to do more and live the change you're asking for."
I would keep that fight for when it's quiet, rather than have multiple fronts, so to speak.

Black people are not viewed as potential executives unless their backgrounds are STELLAR.
People would rather have an average all White board than a stellar diverse board, because no one has to worry about ever feeling uncomfortable.
There are thousands of Blacks who are deserving of being on a Board of Directors.

Then I apologize for misconstruing your argument.
You and I actually agree on that. We hire unqualified people all the time and it annoys me.

I don’t think diversity hires are the solution to anything, but I agree with the sentiment that companies should either put their money where their mouth is if they want to virtue signal on social media, otherwise they might as well do nothing at all. It takes nothing to change your twitter profile picture to a gay pride flag or a black square, but it also accomplishes nothing.

This does not mean a “diversity hire” as the OP states there are qualified Blacks to sit on corporate board if a company is open to diversification. They may have to recruit differently, and be ok with someone unlike themselves in a position of power.
