First year lawyer - do senior lawyers and partners expect you to bother them to ask for work?
I’m looking for some new things to read or listen to — doesn’t need to be ad-related. Books, podcasts, whaddya got?
I’m not really into fiction, but open to anything. Last books I enjoyed were Junior and Moonwalking with Einstein, last podcast I binged was Startup (Gimlet).
If this bill passed, would it apply to as Big 4 employees? I would consider getting a master’s degree then. https://www.yahoo.com/finance/news/new-bill-would-give-essential-workers-25-k-for-tuition-student-loans-175100129.html
Opinions: Is it harder to work for male providers or female? I am wondering if medical providers are easier as managers than dental?
What are your favorite "must do" things in Atlanta? I haven't been here long and my parents are coming, so, they'll want to embarrass me as much as possible at as many tourist hot spots as possible, but also I really want them to have a good time :)
Any medical writer/ scientific writer here?
Recently joined a consulting firm and have a corporate AmEx now. I am planning on paying the $95 fee to get the points from corporate expenses. I also have only a chase sapphire preferred. Is it worth picking up a Gold or Platinum card to pool all the points in one place? I eat out a lot and mostly redeem points for statement credit or the occasiaonl hotel room (use Marriott). Don’t do a ton of personal flying. Thanks in advance.
Just awestruck by how people match on apps but don’t reciprocate or show interest after that
Plan is to purchase some time after 2 years or so. Primarily to save up for a larger down payment.
Here’s my plan of attack:
- $30K saved right now ($20K in IBonds and $10K cash)
- $90K saved by July 2023
-$130K saved by 2023 and target a $800K home
Location: Suburbs of Boston, MA
Could use some help - I am looking at the Griffin Apartments, and the leasing agent keeps denying my request view the apartments as my move in is late summer and she says it’s too early. Can anyone shed light of the Griffin apartments and if they’re worthwhile? The reviews online seem strong.
What level exactly is “Head of” at Google? Head of Global Strategy or Sales etc. What does this roughly translate to in other companies. What would the average salary and wlb be?
Bloomberg hi all! I applied for Bloomberg Analytics and Sales and passed the super day. I’m meeting with the manager tomorrow for half an hour. What can I expect? Thanks!
Associate Manager in EY is equivalent to Technical Lead or Technical Architect ? and what is the next designation after Associate Manager ?
I have offer from EY for Associate Manager and my current designation is Technical Architect (Power Platform/Azure/SharePoint and O365)
Does EY have enough Power Platform projects, is the job going to be secure ? (I am already working 14 hours in Infosys and I can work as long as required)
Want to improve my verbal and written communication skills. I hear reading more would help but I don’t read as much as I used to. So I’m wondering what books would help with that? Should I just read books that tickle my fancy like suspense and true crime novels? Help! Welcome to all book recommendations!
Guys I'm getting an offer from Accenture in gpay process they're given 20-30% hike on my current package. I'm not sure about incentives can anyone help me with this?

I’ve increasingly been using retail therapy and have forayed into expensive luxury items such as designer sunglasses (LV) and coats (Burberry) — can anyone whose further down this road tell me what the natural progression of this is and whether I should stop now or carry on?
My team is great and includes me in activities, like dep prep, in which I’m unlikely to contribute hugely given that I’m a junior. But how can I get over feeling completely useless during such activities? I get really anxious and feel like I’m not contributing/wasting the firm’s money
Did your gifts to your parents scale with your pay in big law? What year are you and how much do you spend on gifts for family?
UK associate here. Do you get your trainee a christmas gift?! I’ve only had trainees since covid so this will be my first christmas with a trainee where we’re not working remotely. I feel like it would be weird but what do people think? And what if he gets me one?
I have a few “referral to hiring manager” from DOJ trial attorney positions. Oldest referral was a month ago. Any attorneys go through this process have insight into timeframes for interviews?
3rd year transaction associate - I always seem to make errors under the pump (urgent entry of numbers or details at closing) etc - how can I improve this? The normal advice of taking the time to re-check etc doesn’t really work because it’s urgent!! Help
After clerking, my BF recently accepted an offer from and joined a V50 firm (been there a few weeks). Shortly before his start date, he heard back from a V5 firm (one he’s wanted to join for a while) and just got an even better offer. Practice groups at each firm are also different.
The office he joined for the V50 firm is in City A. The office for the V5 firm is in City B (where V50 firm also has an office).
How should he break the news to the V50 firm to minimize reputational risk, etc.?
6 month long probation period at new job is right around the corner (end of May). If I’ve heard nothing on this from my team/HR, is that good news? I’d been slightly worried due to the slow down in PE/M&A deals at my firm (billables changed from 200 in Jan to 120 in April).
For the last four weeks or so of WFH I’ve been making it to my desk around 7:30/8am and working basically without a break—lunch at desk- but cannot maintain momentum past like 6:30/7:30pm. Most of the day is billable work, but I cannot bring myself to finish outstanding assignments after 8pm, but then feel so guilty when I’m not working past that time. Am I burnout or fucked up? (Also I hate this gig & am not in it for the long haul, just hate not turning things quickly)
I’m an associate trying to exit biglaw and there is a current job posting for in-house counsel at one of the firm’s smaller clients. I’m tempted to apply, but scared it’s going to get back to the client’s shareholder contact that I’m looking. Anyone with any insight on this? In a similar vein, has anyone been honest about looking for exiting opportunities with shareholders such that they maybe can help place you somewhere strategic for them and the pipeline of work in the future?
First year associate here. Does anyone know of a handy tool/website/software that allows you to easily track people’s availability for scheduling calls? I currently do it manually and it’s quite inefficient and sloppy.
Does anyone have any insight (culture, prospects) on Proskauer? Specifically private funds groups in NYC and Boston.
Interviewing at Borton Petrini in Los Angeles ….Anyone have any experiences working there/interviewing there or any tips they can provide? Any salary tips? billable hours? Anything anyone has heard regarding Borton Petrini
Is there still a stigma re: paternity leave? My husband is at a V10 and wants to take the full leave but is worried about pushback/stigma. It bears a lot on future plans bc he wants to take it when I go back.
Best LA firm for entertainment lit (copyright, idea submission, fair use, defamation, etc.)?
Partners, do you care if associates don’t ask for work? I’m slow right now but work in a small office of a v50 so the partners know my availability. Y’all know where to find me.
I need help with what my next career move should be! I’m a 3rd year complex lit associate at a V50 firm moving to a Midwest city with limited biglaw options. I’m very interested in white collar and employment law, but they’re very different with different career trajectories. I have more experience in white collar but have always been interested in employment. I don’t want to lose the complex cases big law offers — will I even get those kinds of cases at a firm like Littler? (More below)
I had to eat a lot of class years when joining big law. I didn’t go T14, didn’t get a summer job in big law, had to work my way up and finally got here. I’m at a great firm doing the exact work I like doing. Now, all around me, colleagues who graduated with me or after me are getting promoted and I’m still a long ways away. They all deserve it. But I can’t help but feel jealous and angry about the uncertainty ahead of whether I’ll make it there and how long it will take. Can anyone relate?
Anyone successfully take a couple hours off every evening (e.g., 5-7 pm) before logging back on for dinner, gym, family time etc.? How is it working out for you? Do people know this schedule of yours? Any advice on how to incorporate?
