Where’s everyone partying tonight 💃🏻
Good lord, how’d he survive that?
Hi Everyone,
I just received an offer to work as an software sales representative (SDR) for IBMs Z systems. I'm coming as a sales engineer in the cloud security space. Can anyone advise me on whether Z systems are something worth going into? Also what do the growth opportunities look like at IBM? Is there opportunity for lateral movement onto other teams? Not too sure how I feel about working on mainframes (Z systems) but they keep pitching hybrid cloud to me. IBM
Received an Amazon inclined recycle outcome in August for L6 technival position. Told I needed to mini loop on another role for placement. Fast forward to this week, requested to interview for another L6 technical position - they want to do full 6 hour loop. Sys Dev Manager first role vs Sr TPM for 2nd role. Annoyed... 🤨

I think some of the rhetoric from some women makes men feel excluded or even threatened. Maybe working on more inclusivity might help. Even phrases like “The Future is Female” can leave guys wondering where that leaves them standing. Even if it isn’t meant to come off that way. Just my honest perspective
Am a man — totally comfortable with “the future is female.” Are you also one of those All Lives Matter people?
"The future is female" was a slogan created by a fringe, second wave feminist splinter group of lesbian separatists who wanted to start a society without men. If you want the actual history of it.
Maybe that fact might explain why men aren't especially excited to participate in this stuff. Honestly, if you want someone to do something for you, you've got to sell them on it first. What's in it for the men? Sell them and they'll participate.
On the positive side: Walk the walk. Be kind. Recognise the specific difficulties that women face in this industry, and in life in general. Help lower the cultural barriers to success, to happiness, to fulfillment, to respect that women face.
So another conference with 97% white men? Just what this industry needs. It was totally lacking
I find that people who shy away from gender conversations also shy away from race conversations. Which was a major part of the conference this year. I'm not saying you're part of the problem, but boiling down a conference that was designed to empower everyone to some jaded thought in your head...
I do understand the need to sell an idea to whomever you want to enlist or enroll in the idea although I wish there was no need for explaining or selling to dudes why men should be part of the solution and that it was obvious to them. But since they seldom face the struggles women face gender wise, it still does take effort to explain to them. Most of all, my biggest argument to men that I say left and right is that abolishing the patriarchy is most certainly a way for men themselves to be liberated from gender norms as well. Men do also suffer under the patriarchy value system and face pressure to "act like a man", "be a man" and be strong financially providing promoted with outstanding careers have MBA buy a diamond ring blah blah. It's sad. So if dudes don't get that women's empowerment to be anything they want to be and earn as much as they earn leads to men having a better opportunity in life to live how they want to define what the male experience is, then I don't know what else can help them.
100% agree that both sides have much to learn about social conditioning and unconscious bias and be trained in active listening and reflecting back skills and nonviolent communication methods if we are ever to talk productively about issues instead of doing the tired biological response of getting defensive.
Wow, love this idea. Truly. I’m super down. I’m a white guy
@ACD2. Thank you for nailing the “man-hating undercurrent” for me, lumping me in with mass shooters. Really? Like I said, off the rails.
And if this movement is creating discriminatory, gender-based hiring/promotion quotas, it is most definitely about me and my livelihood.
SC3 thank you for sharing and getting involved. In addition to encourage women to recruit men to attend, have you used your experience to encourage other men to attend? This is a really great action that helps ease the load off of women’s shoulders .
@ad2
I hope you don't mind to elaborate, because in all honesty, your statement sounds sexist (and antisocial).
Hope I'm wrong and just misunderstood. Help me (a man that likes to help everyone, not just women) understand where you are coming from.
“A large number of ______ ______ _____ I’ve worked with could be described as _______”
Is one of my new favorite leading sentences of all time.
Fill in the blanks!
So many attention-seeking dudes working out their anger issues about a conference that’s clearly not for them or about them. Don’t you incels have a shooting to be plotting somewhere or some tone deaf scripts to be pushing off on a client?
Hey @CD2 it was less the shooting and more the incel comment that should have hit home for you. Don’t be a dick and you’re fine. If you truly are a CD, look around, white men aren’t going anywhere during your career. But you will have to learn how to work with people who aren’t a reflection of you. And maybe, just maybe recognize that some of the people you’ve idolized are dicks and it’s ok they are gone now. It’s not hard.
I'd like to get some elaboration on my question: what would be the point of this conference? Why are those men there? What would you tell them? Would you ask anything of them?
Straight white men are the worst! If you’re anywhere on the LGBTQIA+ spectrum, or a POC or a female you’re automatically better than a straight white male at everything guaranteed! Sweeping statements and woe is me comments get me going in the morning baby WOOOO
@klick1 what’s your hot take on decades of “the future is the man as a care taker and the women as the home taker”
The number of broad assumptions you’ve made about me is amazing. Talk about bias. Jesus.
AD2..huh?!
Producer.. Nothing wrong with it being a year for the women imo. Or the next couple of years. We have much to learn.
Preaching to the choir. Agency said they wanted to send men and women to 3%. They ended up sending a couple men and like 15 women, some of which are Jr account ppl who just started. I'm all for empowering and hiring women, but feeling ostracized isn't helping matters.
Holy cow apparently some one found my comment to be uncivil. Was it the f word or being called out on infantile behavior that did it? Just want to know what we're dealing with here
