Idea: What keeps Big 4 from getting into rentals/housing?

Imagine a pilot program, where associates are offered studios/1 BRs that are very close to the office. And rent is basically guaranteed!!

Short answer: because it’s a bad idea.

If you want to attract people to this, you need to incentivize people to rent an apartment from their company and, subsequently, have to move if they get a new job or get laid off. To do that, you’re going to need to offer below-market rent, so your margins are going to be really thin and you’ll tie up a bunch of capital buying apartment buildings in HCOL areas of HCOL cities.

Your thin margins get thinner when you need people to administer this and legal fees to deal with your tenants.

Even if you deal with all of these things, who wants to be neighbors with *only* their coworkers?

I hate my colleagues. No desire to see them in or outside of the office. Big four hires a bunch of tools that would be better off selling used KIAs if I had to assign them a more appropriate job.

My friend has following offers from three companies after MBA (two offcampus and one from campus)

1. Finance Effectiveness/ EPM role at one of the Big 4
2. Deal Advisory role at one of the Big 4
3. Organization strategy role from one of the top consulting companies (not Big 4)

Which role offers the best exit options? All the offers from US support teams of the companies.
OS role offers better than the other two (only slightly), but I am interested in a good profile

What are your thoughts on buying a house in  this environment? I have been saving, and think I can now afford a decent size house--for a first time home buyer. For now, I have been just checking out inventories and am researching on do's and don'ts as time permits. I am really nervous as I am so new to this and the current economy doesn't help. I am very fortunate to still have a job, but who knows when the tide turns? I will be getting an agent once I stop being indecisive...

My husband and I are from different nationalities and religions. In his religion it’s customary to name a kid after the paternal grandfather. I’m not so keen on following this when we have kids and would rather we find names that represent both parents backgrounds. That may be in form of giving more ethnically ambiguous names or naming one kid after one culture name and then the other after the other (admittedly it can be a bit odd). Anyone faced this dilemma?
