Ideas for a career switch of a 3-year associate working in international arbitration? Any suggestion is very welcome, even if about jobs not strictly related to that field.

The obvious one within the field is to become counsel at an institution (ICC, ICSID, etc.). But are you trying to get out of law altogether?

I’m not a US citizen but I will look for similar roles in my country, thanks!

I started in international commercial arbitration at a firm, and then transitioned in house to a commercial contracts role at a multinational company. It was a major career shift, but allowed me to use the knowledge from international arbitration and litigation in international contracting, while picking up new skills. I’m not sure what kind of international arbitration you handle, and what kind of work you’re interested in, but NGOs like the world bank, UN, or arbitral institution may be of interest. When I was making the shift, I also found it helpful to look at resources and talk to folks at ASIL, the Washington Foreign law society, and ABA’s international section. There are probably others, but those orgs are a good starting place.

UN and similar organizations are precisely what I was thinking of. Thanks!

Wow you’re in my dream practice area 😂

Are there any firms that market a slightly different lifestyle than maybe the V10 for M&A lawyers (or more broadly)? Considering a move in 2023 and thinking law firms still may be the best fit for comp and experience but also want to escape some of the crazy culture of working a ton, difficult clients, partners never pushing back on timelines etc. Perhaps I’m looking for the unicorn firm that does not exist.

Hello Fishes,

Just thinking out loud!

But I am finding it very difficult to find a Business Analyst/Sales & Marketing Performance Analyst role in my desired location even after having an experience of 2.3 valuable years.

I have ample experience with Google Sheets, Google AdWords, Power Tools, Macros in Excel & MS Excel itself, Google Data Studio & Data Forecasting.

Please advice, if I am exploring too soon or going wrong somewhere?

Your thoughts will be really appreciated.

Thinking of switching from sales to a sales engineering role. Biggest difference is going to be higher base (plus bonus) with no commission or quota to carry. Curious as to what is a fair salary in todays climate. We’re a series C fintech company based in NYC. I’m being considered for the role because I’m one of the strongest presenters on the team. It will still be in individual contributor role with supposed path to leadership. Curious the range as well as equity to expect/ask for.

So conservatives claim it's the "woke" left stifling speech because public sentiment no longer find their comments appropriate in polite society.

On the other hand we have conservative groups literally trying to pass laws on what could be said and taught. Marco Rubio introduced a bill so that companies could be sued for practicing their own free speech through boycotts (for example what happened in NC a couple years ago) on social issues that don't align with their values.

When is, or is it ever, acceptable to connect with opposing counsel on LinkedIn? I just completed a big trial, appeals process is over and the thing is dead. There were good attorneys on the other side that I think I impressed that I'd like to connect with for networking purposes. My firm is in a small market with no Big Law outposts, so there's good potential for local counsel or referral work from those firms. I see a few of them viewed my profile during and after the trial.
