Idk what to do. We have a $100 million deal go on pause for a few weeks and a few days ago, found out we’re h back at it again and closing this Friday. Long story short, we have to start from scratch. We’re back on track now.
However, I found out a few hours ago about a family health emergency. Parent in the ICU. I’m the only associate on this deal. If it gets worse, idk what or how to tell the partner that I need a break. I’m just afraid I’ll be the reason we can’t close… Any advice?

Tell the partner immediately. If you are still able to work for the time being, you should still tell the partner about the situation so they are on notice that they might need to line someone up to cover for you.

No one in big law is so indispensable that they can't be spared for a family emergency.

like

Family first. The firm can restaff. You are not Atlas--the fate of the firm does not rest on your shoulders alone.

Do not choose work and regret it, should, G*d forbid, parent takes a turn for the worse.

You are not slacking. This is an emergency.

Your parent is in my prayers.

like

I mean this in the nicest way possible. You are 100% replaceable on this deal.

You are 0% replaceable to your family.

like

If you tell the partner and they do anything except tell you to go be with your family if you need to, I would look for a different place to work.

like

Agreed.

Totally echo the above. It’s important to raise it now so they can start thinking about who they can draft in even if you didn’t want to step down from the deal immediately. Other associates (probably more than one) will absolutely understand and be happy to cover for you even if they’re having a crunch week. The firm and the deal will go on, even if it’s hard work for a while.

It’s times like this that people remember there is more to life than work. Wishing you and your family all the best.

Go to be with your family. They really need you. The firm and partner can manage and restaff.

I am currently at a firm and received an in-house offer. Aside from main items like comp and big ticket benefits like PTO/health insurance/401k, what other items do I need to think about discussing/negotiating? For example, fees to keep bar licensure, professional association fees, CLEs, etc. I feel like there is so much on that end I currently take for granted being covered at my firm. Anything else I should consider?

Not a brand rejecting an influencer. We don’t want to be rude & would like to keep the door open for future collabs if they meet our standards in the future.

I quit. I was respectful. Thankfully, every person I have told has been so nice, and I wasn't immediately bounced out by my leadership (which has happened), but I have been surprised by my own bittersweet tears. If they actually cared, why didn't they say so sooner? I gave so much, and I was consumed by this organization. I invested in them, but my investment and dedication were not reciprocated, which is why I ever even entertained leaving. I don't know why it hurts, but it really, really does.
