Idk what’s going on but the level of unprofessionalism with recruiters has reached a new level, and I’m interviewing at all large truly top firms - J&J, Deloitte, Meta/Facebook, McKinsey, etc. really bad all around

I am a recruiter We are overwhelmed with openings, as well as administrative work and have been short staffed. Although I make every effort to get back to people with good news, bad news or indifferent news sometimes it becomes necessary to prioritize and compartmentalize. We also deal with candidates that profess interest in a position and then ghost us. Sorry you had a bad experience.

This… 100%. Also a recruiter and ALWAYS strive for the best candidate experience (I’ve always treated my candidates as if I was in their shoes), however, recently with being short staffed & an influx of open reqs, it’s so hard. I will tell the OP, there are definitely a few bad apples but for the most part we’re doing our absolute best given the current situation most of us are in. I currently own 125 requisitions, filling 40-45 reqs a month and this is an area that isn’t supposed to be high volume. All of my candidates are unfortunately not getting that service level excellence I strive for but I’m killing myself trying to get to as many as I can. Early mornings, late nights, weekends, no lunch hour. It’s rough for sure. Also recently interviewed so I see the other side of things as well in a candidate’s situation. Everyone is overworked right now and we just need to give a little grace.

Don't be shy...tell us what they are doing that is unprofessional? I'm just curious.

Oh. My. Gosh. On behalf of that recruiter I apologize. I’m horrified.

Well I can tell you I interviewed with Meta/ Facebook back in November December, my process started in August 2021 and ended in December with a yay we are going to offer and on the day of the offer call they tell me they are hitting pause until the new year so no offers. I took the next best thing that came to me but till date no call backs ever… and it was super shady them pulling out on the offer like that… so yes lots of bad apples thrown in with the good ones and it exists everywhere, it’s more glaring when it is a large company because the expectation is that they have it together and look more buttoned up but it’s just lack of training overall and who runs these teams .

I'm having a similar experience. I think they're all working with so many roles, and covering for other recruiters who have left, and therefore just don't have capacity.

It's rough all around in this job market at the moment. I thought it being "candidate driven" would help but there are so many other factors influencing it that it doesn't feel like I, as a candidate, have influence over anything.

Mass numbers of new openings and new people trying to get that better job means its that much harder for recruiters. It's hard for everyone, but its easy to see how this impacts job seekers. Despite all this, its still not as bad as some other industries.

Yeah dude I make the business case all the time to try to illustrate the cost of recruiting - and of an inefficient recruiting process. The hit that retention takes, the operating cost while teams are short staffed or panic picking people who wash out. The good execs see the point and do things like let me control my own recruiting budget and implement an ATS I like and hire another set of hands. The others will literally say that since my department doesn't produce revenue then we will not get the resources we're asking for to do the job well. The back and forth on that goes around and around all the fucking time. We do our best with what we're given.

I had an interview scheduled. 3 hours before, I received the standard great talking to you and le a ring about your goals, but it's a no. I never had the interview or talked to anyone. They also didn't call to cancel or explain. They sent the email like we actually met.

I think every profession has their bad apples. Sorry you had a bad experience but it is probably a sign on how the organization is ran as a whole. So maybe it's a blessing in disguise? Were you working with a staffing company or an internal recruiter, those could make the candidate experience different too. Unless you are being hired, staffing recruiters don't really give the white glove service that an internal recruiter would. Care to share which companies you interviewed for? I know alot of tech companies are churn and burn type hiring so again, candidate experience isn't their top priority.

Some companies send out surveys post interview to candidates to get genuine annoymous feedback on their process. Coinbase did this as I had interviewed with them but didn't get an offer. The experience was lovely and I said nothing but good things about their process.

My experience with recruiters was terrible too but I was working in HR at the time. I don’t think they receive the right training and then say things that are incorrect to candidates. It’s been a mess for a long time so I understand what you mean.

My last recruiter worked for a large firm as well - kept playing with her hair and checking her phone. 🙄 Like, tie your hair up and put your phone away.

I have recently joined the talent acquisition role and did not receive proper training at all. I have an organisational psychology background and went through the recruitment process recently too so I am aware of the issues that are out there. I try to provide a good experience for the candidates that come my way but we are definitely understaffed and not given proper training. It is by no means any excuse and I am truly sorry that this has happened to you. The other thing I noticed is that a lot of new recruiters that I've met at my current position do not have any experience in the field, educational or practical. Someone actually mentioned to me that the only experience they have is that they interviewed people as part of their postgraduate studies (in a science field). It is just as frustrating for us on the inside as I can imagine it is for you trying to find a new position. I really hope your next recruiter experience is a lot better!

I’m currently interviewing for a hybrid Jr UX Designer role for a fragrance company. The compensation is between 70-80k. I searched the market rate in NYC and the salaries are between 103-120k. I assume this is based on the company, industry, and experience. I have a graphic design background with 10 years experience and have a springboard certification for UX. I don’t want to get low balled as I have been in the past. Is it unreasonable to ask for what’s market value when it’s a team of 5?

Hi Team,

I have cleared all the interview rounds (WebEx & HR on call) for the position: VERIFIER, and also submitted documents (authentic as per my knowledge) for background verification on Aug. 25, 2022.

I have been extensively interviewing with a bank and I believe we might be approaching the offer stage but we are not formally there yet (I have interviewed with the whole team incl. hiring managers but never spoke to HR until now). They are now asking for proof of compensation at my current employer - I do not mind since I am paid street but I still find it somewhat invasive. Is that normal for them to ask? We have never discussed money before (they did not ask for my salary expectations)

Wanting some advice. I manage higher up’s close friend and they are not qualified to do the work. I have been trying to steer the person in the right direction for weeks, & they don’t take feedback well and blame others. There was a particular meeting where this happened in front of others & they got frustrated and this got back with my boss and I’ve been told I need to work on empathy. The irony here is in past reviews my strongest feedback has been my relationship building skills.
