We went one to one this year, but also teach face-to-face. The choice was left to the parents, so a mixed assortment. It is very difficult to try to teach virtually while teaching in person at the same time. Actually, it is almost impossible. Here everyone teaches at least one virtual class and also in person. Very different set up and very different needs.

I teach in person and virtually at the same time for group, then teach individuals throughout the day in person and remotely... not easy

As a special education resource teacher, I have struggled teaching on-site students and remote students at the same time since the beginning of this school year. I definitely feel that remote learning is in no way equitable. Students and parents can choose remote learning in our district and many made the incorrect choice in my opinion. If as a parent you do not have the skills to e-mail, electronic signature, know the difference between gaming and Google Meet or Zoom, you probably shouldn’t be choosing remote schooling for your child if on-site is available. There is talk about our school requiring on-site for students FAILING classes remotely which I personally thinks makes more sense than all 504’s, IEP’s, and students who don’t have internet. I can picture a bunch of angry kids having to come to school in person with no other general education kids except those who are low SES while the country club kids get to log in from home and still have use of their cell phones out of the frame!

Texas has a massive liability shield. Basically the same law that applies to police officers also applies to teachers. I would consult your local union reps because your relevant laws will be different.

I can see why a teacher would say having only one student in the room would be a liability. Before becoming a special education teacher I was a speech therapist in the school setting and I often worked with students one on one. You can suggest they leave the door open or place the student at a distance. Maybe you could group kids together so that it isn’t one teacher alone with one student. Have the kids online using headphones doing their individual lessons just in a room with other people. Maybe have a paraprofessional in the room as a third party?

I recently met someone in another country where I’m working remote. He asked me to be his girlfriend but I’m moving in about a month. He doesn’t want to do distance unless I move back (which is an option with remote work, but visas are tricky). I really like him but don’t know if I’d be able to move back here between work/borders/etc. Do I keep seeing him and just try to enjoy the now? A part of me just feels so sad about leaving and breaking up. Idk if it’s worth it.
