Deloitte question. I have always gotten a raise each year, the only question I ask is how much of a raise do I get. But I’m hearing from former Deloitte folks, it is naive to expect annual raises each year however small/big they are? And how does this play in Deloitte consulting vs advisory? Do one tend to withhold annual raises in base salary over the other, or is this just a deloitte culture thing? Looking at exit opportunities all over. So lmk! I’d Rather get a small raise than none at all.

the number of people telling you to leak the email is astounding. Internal mechanisms exist for a reason--because they're in everybody's interest. if you make it an external issue they could come down on you hard, and they would be well within their right
Surprised by so many people suggesting OP leaks it; shows how little time we have for forgiveness and redemption. And how entrenched we have become in our sanctimony. Leaking it could damage this Partner's clients, and his career and family life, all for being loose with words or lapsing in judgment (after all there's been no evidence that this incident is an indication of structural/institutional racism within that Partner's team).
The best option is to offer him a way out; say that you had seen these words attributed to him and that he should be aware of the potential damage to he and the firm's reputation. Given the option to recant and apologize, you'd be surprised how many people would take it and use it as an opportunity to reform. I wouldn't be surprised if that Partner asks you for coaching on the issue.
It comes down to the question of do you want to punish the offender or do you want to reform him for the better?
F'ing millennials man
So let's recap: You were not on the email. You've never worked for him or met him. You think you know the motivation behind it despite having no knowledge of the participants.
Oh yeah, sounds like you have all the information you need to cast aspersions and try to be a big moral crusader. 🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄
C1: Please read my response on what action I'm taking. I'm not trying to ruin anyone's career, that's why I'm contacting someone on his level that understands where I'm coming from and hopefully them can sit him down and find out the basis of the comment. If it was misconstrued and he meant it as a joke, he needs to know that his joke is racist and messed up. I find it hard to believe a 50 something man doesn't know what he's writing when he suggested it but hopefully he can understand after someone speaks to him. Also it's not a prior joke because the person who got the email was also offended. To be honest, jokes about gender, race should never be acceptable. That's the base of what's wrong - people thinking that it's okay to be sexist and racist in the workplace. Not sure where you're seeing all this racism but if you see it and you don't say anything - you're part of the problem. Stay fucking woke.
Definitely racist
We are brainstorming team names for a racing team in the Asian network
Yes. You should report it. And do NOT talk to him directly. Especially if he doesn't even know you. Per the harassment training - if it offended you, you should report it
the more instances of nonsense like this that you all jump through hoops to blow out of proportion, the more instances of actual discrimination that get ignored. don't cry wolf
good to see some logic from @p5.. surprisingly scant amongst a group that prides themselves on being analytical
Stay fucking woke hahahahaha Jesus Christ I give up. I agree what this partner said was stupid and he shouldn't have said it but everyone getting so damn butt hurt is ridiculous. It's almost comical to see all the social justice warriors in here get so hurt. I love people like you. People like you get steam rolled your entire life because while your trying to figure out what part of your feelings got hurt, the rest of the world is driving on accomplishing shit. Keep whining! I love the salty tears!
I'm Asian, just not Chinese. I'm not denying that the comment was definitely in poor taste and a failed attempt at a joke but I don't think that portrays inherent racism. Context is very important. We all joke around with our friends and say borderline "racy" things, doesn't mean we want all other races dead or out of this country. So just chill, the world isn't over. There are bigger racial issues to worry about in this world rather than taking offense at a stupid joke.
I'd leak it. Get that motha fucka fired
OP--you are right that asians are discriminated against very openly and nobody seems to care, as the resources go to other groups. However, ask yourself if you really have "standing" to make this an issue. This wasn't sent to you or intended for you, so i think to try to get this person in trouble would be a bit of a which hunt. People say all sorts of dumb shit offhandedly, if you haven't been personally disadvantaged i wouldn't make it an issue
Or, raise it with a human who will take it seriously, like the local diversity lead
^and what happens next? Does anybody actually win in that scenario? Is OP then ok to be on the hit list of every friend of the partner inside and outside the firm, including possibly minorities that had good interaction with him? If you want to be an activist OP go for it, but you will be the one that pays more dearly.
Burning someone is revenge and spite. Bad look.
@k4 did you even read anything OP is talking about? OP isn't being a "butt hurt justice warrior" they saw a comment that made him/herself and their friend both uncomfortable. Nobody wants to deal with shit that makes them feel uncomfortable or "outsiders" that's the very reason we have HR and these diversity networks. OP just wants to have an effective outcome to help prevent this, or similar occurrences, from happening in the future. It's a mature take, unlike your rant...
You have to be willing to have some heat put on the guy that forwarded it to you. No one likes a snitch. If you/he is okay with it I'd say do it. It's unfortunately not a surprise that some people are racist to asians.
Don't "leak" it! You could get in trouble for that, and that would be considered retaliation on your part. Report it, to the channels that will handle it appropriately.
It's the responsibility of everyone to educate each other when the possibility of reform exists. Otherwise 'progressives' are no better than puritans.
Everyone demonizes white males 🙄.
