If all someone does is throw you into their firm's referral system, does it matter who?

For example, senior associate (friend) vs. director (stranger). Also, is there a higher chance if you get referred by someone in the practice you're applying for?

There’s probably a slightly higher chance of getting hired by someone if you are referred from the inside, given the internal person’s overall standing with the firm. In addition, who you put down as your referral is used to track who earns the referral bonus in the event you are brought on at this firm. So it does make a difference.

Have your friend refer you. Your odds of getting an interview won’t change much, if they’re going to say “ I barely know this person but here’s their resume.” Whereas your friend can say “I went to school with KPMG OP,and they’re super sharp, and was really great on a group project we worked on.”

Applying to jobs online doesn’t work.

Here’s a better way:

Before a job is posted, it’s talked about among hiring managers and HR.

This is the hidden job market at every company.

You want your name to be in those discussions.

You get your name in those discussions by having conversations with hiring managers and HR at your target companies.

It’s one of the steps in my #CareerBlueprint program which I designed to help get you out of the apply-pray-reject cycle.

Was wondering has anyone moved out of an HCOL area to save money on rent and was it frowned upon when your firm found out? With inflation and rent going up I’m considering moving 3 hours away where rent is half the cost I’m paying now.
