I just read the threaded replies - you are certainly not crazy. I would be extremely angry if this was me and if this happened in my company it would be brought up to HR to assess
It’s not worth it to me. In the end, they gave me something in writing they weren’t willing to honor and that isn’t ok despite an apology. I would rather not involve HR because that’s not really helpful in past roles. You may win that battle but experience declines after.
Your status should have been determined prior the announcement of the bonus. Who is entitled to the interpretation of the policy? It is not the manager but those who drafted it. It's unacceptable playing with the employees' hopes therefore you have reasons to be so upset.
Was the policy followed?
That’s what myself and my manager thought when she told me I was eligible; however, she stated that her boss interprets the language of the policy to mean 90 days must be completed prior to the onset of the measuring period and thus I was ineligible. Thanks for helping me reassure myself I’m not crazy.
That is insane! How are businesses expecting to keep good employees when they treat people like this
That sucks! I'm sorry to hear that. Who told you that a bonus was coming your way? Sometimes upper management has to make a decision, and they don't care about promises as long as they keep their higher-ups happy so they can keep climbing. I suggest not to stress too much and talk with whoever told you if there is something you can do to get that promised bonus.
I'd be upset as well. The higher-ups could really be twisted sometimes. They just do whatever they want without taking into consideration the welfare of the employees.
I'd be upset also. It sucks that you were given incorrect eligibility information. Compensation policy has very little wiggle room, though.
Yes, I understand. I also pointed out another vague point in their policy for transfers that they’re just now figuring out how to address with my other complaint. I did get an apology from the top directly, which rarely happens but I made it clear that transparency is necessary for longevity. For such an established organization for managers and directors to not even fully understand compensation policies, that is an issue! At least now they’re aware since I was comfortable enough in my performance to be vocal (respectfully).
Also, until my experience has proven to have changed I am open to other opportunities. So just putting it out in the universe and whatever is meant to be will be.
I would 100000% be upset. Nobody messes with my money! They should have told you before the payment date so that you knew. I am so sorry that happened
The higher up should have had the grace and/or sense to say, "I understand XYZ gave you wrong information. It's our fault for not ensuring that person understands our policies and practices. We are going to honor that promise, just want to be clear going forward what the deal is." Of course you are reasonable to be upset. I don't know that I would walk away from the company, but it would be a strike that would stay on their record with me for a long time.
Yes, I’m definitely open to new opportunities now. I had a much different impression and now beginning to feel very differently for a variety of reasons and this didn’t help their case.
I have had this done to me in a previous role - that is a bad sign, and I think you are right to just leave it where it is and not say anything. I would just find another home.
Thanks everyone! I really appreciate it!
