Design exercises 😵

It’s been a few years since I last interviewed, so I’m hoping for quick impressions. It’s still considered bad practice for companies to ask for take home design exercises (any length) that relate to the company’s actual products, right? Aka free work.
This is a senior+ role.

I recently moved from California to Pennsylvania and am job searching and my resume is all California. I was on a call with a recruiter for a remote job and they assumed I still lived in CA. When discussing salary, the range I gave them they said was fine since I live in CA and I had to tell them that I live in PA now. He did some calculations and then quoted me a number that was $25k/yr less for the same job. How much leverage do you think I have to negotiate back up to that original figure?

So I’m applying for MBA and will hopefully graduate at 26 with a degree. Lookin to find the best way possible to make my way to some sort of buy side role. Only problem is that my undergrad GPA sucks so an excellent or even great grad school might be out of the question. Was thinking maybe do concentration in acct and then move to FO after maybe like 2 years of an acct gig? Maybe CFA too? Is this realistic?

Started a new job back in January. Creative Director, a team of 7. Went back & fourth in negotiating. Offered 110k. Asked for 120k, settled on 115k. At my annual I plan to address again, in partnership with the impact this position will have made this past year. What do other creative directors earn, if you don’t mind sharing? Hi folks,

Need an advice from you guys. I joined TCS Kolkata as a BPS employee in 2014 and currently I'm in a Finance project working as a Senior Analyst. I have always wanted to be a developer so recently I acquired the knowledge of HTML, CSS, Javascript and Angular. So can I apply for the same in other companies? Or they only want freshers in this segment? As my overall experience is 7+ years but will I be treated as a fresher if I apply for the same?

My friend started his own firm and has been undercutting his previous top 25 firm since they charge hourly and usually have a preparer, reviewer and partner look at the return so it’s a lot of billable hours for a single shareholder physician. Advice for a career pivot in tax?

While I enjoy my job, it has become clear I’m not sure I want to do tax compliance forever. I am a very hard-worker and high performer, but it feels like the amount of work does not reflect pay or respect in tax.

I have considered tax M&A, tax technology or FP&A but would love to learn more about what each would look like before making the jump. If I could redo it all, I would become a trader or do something in finance, but that seems very far fetched (cont)
