Why would it be perceived as a liability?
Why wouldn’t it be a safe space? I’m pretty open about my goal for mba.
There are 5-6 people on my team applying for MBA/PhD/MPAs and everyone has been incredibly supportive of them - I'm sorry to hear your team hasn't been! I wonder if it's a difference between markets? I'm in CCG
I’m in ccg and everyone is super supportive. We announce people going to mba just like we’d announce promos or awards.
I think a big question is what you want to do on the other side. Some industry roles require five years of experience. It is tough for JD/MBAs that went straight through
Schools will always say whenever you're ready to apply, apply. The average for most schools is five upon matriculation. The students I've spoken to who have been accepted are people who have demonstrated that they have excelled in some way (and promoted, too), and their recommenders are able to justify that. I've met someone from Booz with two years of experience who attended MIT.
I wish Booz's Yammer page would be a safe place to talk about MBA applications…
Usually I hear that less years of experience will need other parts of the app to be stronger. And Vice versa, more years of exp help make up for a weaker gpa etc.
Can you keep applying every year? Say you apply after 3 years of experience, then 4, and so on?
From what I see, most of our analysts apply after 2-4 years of consulting experience and place at M7 schools. Most have 3.5+ GPA, 720+ GMAT so ideally they can land somewhere nice (and of course, where they went to undergrad, their story, etc all matter).
