I was always told advertising is about standing out and 15 years ago brands did stand out. Really great ads, really great branding, really great insights. But these days as humans become more informed, the brands are becoming more misinformed. Buzzwords like sustainability, diversity, inclusivity...can we fuckin stop with the “ity” culture? Average middle class consumer is bombarded with so much Information every second but its same messaging overall again n again. Sure some brands are doing great job on digital but overall, the art of branding & standing out is becoming more banal, safe and even though “edgy” is thrown around by suits, in the end its all cookie cutter crap horseshit being repeated like mindless drones. Luxury brands are more immune to this trend as luxury brands have long-form brand stories & have very niche audience but consumer brands are suffering I feel.
