Looking for some advice on the following - I want to make a pivot back to client services, specifically advisory/consulting/transaction services. I have 4 years public accounting experience, and 3.5 years manager experience within the corporate controllership function, both technical and SEC reporting related (more technical than SEC). Poor people skills; you can get by as a manager being focused on quality work.
Depends on the firm and practice but KPMG it's pretty automatic after 2 years of manager.
From what I've seen; deterrent #1 are managers who develop a sudden aversion to doing work anymore (the freedom and independence get to their head), deterrent #2 is poor people skills, deterrent #3 is insufficient technical knowledge

Not having staff underneath you (because department is just you and partner). Not having a partner that supports your career and who only cares about his bottom line
