I think you should have the e membership card or at least the group and Indivusal plan numbers very quickly, so that

Check the insurance website for a membership card. You might be able to login with your ssn.

like

*if* coverage is active immediately (double check that), you should be able to go to the insurance's website and print a card, or even download the app if they have one

like

Sometimes you should be able to print the card from insurance web. But sometimes you won’t be able to print, because they need information from you or their systems need time to process. Inform your doctors office to bill the insurance after a week. In the mean time, call your HR/Benefits/Insurance. If it is regular DR visit, delay the visit.

It often isn’t effective until beginning of next month, no?

Not always, specifically self-insured employers can start the benefit immediately. I know of few employers who give such insurance immediately.

Hi! I have a few questions on the backdoor Roth in which I’ve done a bit of research online. When it comes tax time, will my 401k vendor (Merrill) give me the correct documents? I’ve just used turbo tax in the past but am worried of any documents I may be missing to adjust any tax. Also- when does the pro-rata rule come into play? I’m just nervous in the entire process as this is my first year doing this. TIA!!

What do you recommend investing your money in if you don’t think you’ll live very long in retirement? Most my family hasn’t made it past 70 due to cancer etc., so I’m concerned the money I’m putting in 401k will never be able to be used by me… thank you.

22, healthy, single, M. Should I really max my HSA? I completely understand the triple tax savings but my thought process is I don’t think I’ll have a large med expense for a while. I know, I know, I know anything could happen but the likelihood is pretty low rn and I don’t want to lock this money up for solely health costs when I rather be saving for a house down payment or continued education. I still plan to contribute to it, but should I really max it out at my age??
