If I filed 2018 & 2019 taxes while being claimed as a dependent, but for 2020 I will be claiming myself, will I get the $1200 tax credit on my return for 2020 (since right now I don’t qualify for it)

Mega Backdoor Roth IRA question/After-Tax contributions

Crosspost from a thread in the KPMG bowl discussing Mega Backdoor Roth IRA/After-Tax contributions. I wanted to ask a quick question for a “mistake” I may have made.

I forgot to change my contributions from after-tax to Roth + Traditional. A few paychecks went through as after-tax and hasn’t touched my $20,500 contribution limit for the year yet.

How will those funds be used/taxed? What are the implications here.

Are there options trading coaches or mentors? I’ve done well in stocks trading, have basic knowledge of derivatives from the BComm in Finance and various books/online resources.
But I feel like I’m really lost in the actual practical aspect of options trading and would love to learn directly from someone who’s experienced and successful in it. Preferably someone who’s smart about risk-minimizing strategies.

If anyone is thinking about going on flex time, I would highly recommend it. It might not work for everyone, but my experience has been a positive one. I took a 20% pay cut along with 20% reduced hours. I am able to support my family with that income and my firm respects my limited hours, but I still need to plan to make sure I can complete tasks in my reduced hours too. Anyways, if you like what you do, but don’t like the long hours and can take a pay cut, I would do it.

If I have a MST is it worth getting a JD? I prefer tax theory and the implications, planning and strategizing, over the preparation and compliance aspects, tax prep and dealing with irs.

Looking to switch to audit from tax (1.5YOE) for experience Because I have been curious. Some industries that seem interesting are non-profit, energy, M&D, retail. Also speak Spanish and have an intermediate level of Japanese reading, writing, speaking. Hoping for Baker Tilly, BDO, Mazars, Eide Bailey. I already applied to big4 as well.

I just spoke with a software architect that went back to school to learn software engineering after law school because it was more lucrative and had less hours. He’s worked his way up and has the skills and authority to work 6:30am-10am and gets to work remotely. We discussed that results/outputs is better than billable time like in law and public accounting. Yet, his parents and others would view him as “lazy” but he does his job and makes a fantastic living. Time>Money and Results>Hours

I currently have two private industry job offers as a senior tax analyst. One is for a publicly-traded company which I will mostly be working on compliance work and occasionally help with provisions. The returns are also prepared in-house. The other is not publicly traded but ill be working on all aspects of tax such as compliance, provision, and indirect taxes. But the returns are prepared by an accounting firm, I just work on the work papers. Which job do you think will require more OT?
