If I give my 2weeks notice (leaving to Deloitte) would I be asked to leave the same day? I am worried I will have no income till I start with Deloitte in 3weeks. Advise pls

Even if they ask you to leave that day they'll pay you the 2 weeks. Also... you should not live paycheck to paycheck...

like

M1 - that is really not fair. People have sizable student loans, people support family members, people have medical needs, etc. Don’t judge until you walk in their shoes

like

EY2 - yes, we don’t want you taking firm information and talking about why you are leaving and tainting your teams any more than your departure already would.

like

It really depends on you, your realtionship with the team, and their needs. I came from PwC to EY and my team had me work the two weeks. And this was two months after we filed for year end. I'd plan on being shown the door the day you give notice, but don't be surprised if they keep you for the full two weeks.

like

M-1 Funny story people like you are why I am quitting. Jumping into conclusions eh? I have enough savings just don't want to go 2weeks without pay, so I don't touch a dime of savings.

like

Sadly some of us do live paycheck to paycheck. Student loan, mortgage, credit card debt, and the essential expenses. The struggle is real

like

Tell them the day before you start

like

At EY they very likely would take your computer and let you pack your desk, take your ID, watch you pay your corporate card balance and walk you out the door. They’ll pay you for the two weeks. Can speak to what PwC does

like

D1- I kind of have to tell them before have due to checks and references.

like

Depends, I have seen them escort some people out at PWC and others were asked to transition jobs to others for 5 or 6 days.

like

Policy is that if you are going to a competitor, you leave the day you give your notice

like

I heard they do let you go the day of but will they even do that during busy season when your teams really need you?

PWC 1- I have savings alright. Just don't want to miss out on my 2weeks salary. I have a zero based budget system where my income pays for current expenses. I don't want to use savings during job transition.

If the firm ask you to leave prior to the date you provided, it is still required to pay you in lieu of notice. This is the law!!! They also pay out any unused vacation balance you may have in the books.

Depends on team needs and if there are other resources available. What level are you? Lower the level, higher the chance that you will be walked out immediately but they will pay out however long the notice you give is

Lol, who in the B4 seriously lives paycheck to paycheck? Sad.

Generally you will work after giving the two week notice unless you’re going to a competitor in which case you’ll be asked to turn your stuff in the same day.

Try to put 3 weeks notice

3 weeks why?

Do you record your unbillable time? I have had conflicting responses. I have been told it's not good for efficiency calculations but others have told me if your still doing work let people know. For example, I get weird international stuff sometimes that not everyone gets (I think maybe? ) and I need to reread the 5471 rules or 8865 rules as I do the returns. I have been told not to bill for this but if I didn't have to spend time to do such things my billable hours would be higher
