If I got offered a salary for a new job, let’s say $150,000, based on my COL and being in a HCOL city like NYC or LA — then I buy a house in Florida and move there. Will my company likely adjust my salary?

Don’t know about your company. Unless you did that directly after getting hired (and they felt it was bait and switch) my company would not adjust initially, but would align future raises to your new COL location and therefore you would likely see several years of relatively flat wage growth as it got accounted for

This is the same with ACN

I moved from NYC to Austin and they didn’t adjust my pay, but HR said that future raises will be minimal to compensate. My wife (who works for PwC) had her pay decreased by 15% to adjust for the change in COL.

like

Haha thanks! Her pay has been increased over the past couple of years and is almost what it was before we left, finally

Probably depends on the company. But I’m inclined to agree with EY1 that they probably won’t reduce your pay, but you’ll see slower growth over the couple of years following the move as your new, lower COL gets factored in.

like

Makes sense!

If you transfer offices, it will be adjusted.

Not at KPMG. we don't adjust but future comp reflects new area.

Btw I forgot to mention, this is hypothetically 😉😉 for a 100% remote position

Depends on the firm. I'm currently at an industry firm that has everyone bucketed to one of ~20 different pay ranges. I'm based out of our HQ on the east coast and one of my colleagues is based out of Indianapolis; his pay band is 12% lower than mine, though we're both the same level, and if I were to move there my pay would go down 12%. Other companies I've worked for at the past have had similar pay policies, have kept pay the same but capped future raises, or have had nationwide pay bands.

Very close to receiving a job offer for a fast growin start-up company related to dental. It is located in SF which unfortunately is not Americas most expensive city to live in (I’d have to move there). Started pricing apartments and will need an offer of about $135k to qualify for housing but anything I find for a salary reference says the company plays about 95k in SF - how do I justify my experience and drive to the company to show my value or is that too big of a wage gap to bridge? I am looking forward to HR round for Macquarie Gurugram. All rounds went well except for numerical reasoning section in psychometric test. My yoe is exactly 8 years. My current CTC is 16.2 and expecting raise in current company in 2-3 months. Q1- What is the maximum I can demand in Macquarie in HR round? Initially, before interviews started, I mentioned 27LPA (negotiable). I have a past offer (not current) of 25.5 LPA. Q2 do they decline offering in case we get adamant abt high salary 27Lpa?

How is your firm’s bonus policy structured? Set amounts based on year of call and hours? Discretionary? Who the hell knows? What bonus?

Recruiting pitch! Recently left EY (I was so unhappy) for a smaller firm that really emphasizes WLB. Salary is decent, benefits are great, hours are reasonable, and the people are awesome (most are ex big 4 but with none of the attitude). We also get overtime pay if you happen to work more than 40 hours (!!) We have a ton of needs (seniors and up) right now so pls DM me if you enjoy the work you do but hate the hours/stress/lack of balance/independence requirements 🤗

I really wish the big law firms in Canada were as transparent about their pay and bonus scales as what we are seeing in the US. Does any Canadian firm share bonus scales??

Trying to get an idea of some comparables here for Canada: Looking for : - billable hour targets, bonus structures, whether your firm has provided some form of COViD bonus /retention bonus, and lastly, if your firm will be increasing associate salaries in 2022! It would be great if the firm name was mentioned as well.
