If I have 3 years of experience, up to what year of experience should I apply to jobs for? It is ok to apply to positions that ask for max 5?

I never understand these questions. Apply to everything for which you hit ~50% of the qualifications. It takes like ten minutes to apply to a job and you lose absolutely nothing by trying. I had roughly 5YOE and was applying to pretty much everything below asking for 15YOE. I got interviews and offers for positions I was in no way qualified for if you went solely off the posting requirements. You never know, just try.

Thank you for the advice. This would be my second job so I didn’t know how recruiting works beyond entry level. This gives me hope.

Any Slack SEs here? I’m in conversation with a Slack recruiter for an SE role. Curious how competitive the market is with Microsoft basically offering MS Teams for free and the pandemic starting to wind down. I see most cool startups have Slack and bigger enterprises have been getting swooped up by MS Teams because of cheaper pricing and not needing to buy Zoom. I personally like Slack more but how are current market conditions and how are y’all feeling? Slack Salesforce

I've been asked to post this in the UK comp bowl.

Our household TC is £225k excluding bonuses (mostly my income). Somehow we manage to save £6k a month after paying our mortgage & bills and then a further £2k into corporate pension schemes. We invest our savings but the feeling of putting away £8k each month feels great. I thought when I'd get to this stage I'd have more desires to spend the money but there is nothing I can honestly think of right now that I'd love to buy. I didn't spend a....

I think my dad is in a deep depression and I don’t know how to help. I think his general “laziness” stems from that but my family’s anger toward him for not trying to find a job or contribute at all to the household has created resentment against him so it’s a vicious cycle. He doesn’t want to help himself (probably because he is depressed) and that makes people not want to help him. Any suggestions?

In-house counsel - would you prefer working at a big company specializing in a field of law, eg, privacy, IP, employment, etc, or a small company being a general counsel? Assume the small company has a higher risk of going under compared to the big company, but higher reward (via stock), and the large company pays a healthier salary.

For in-house counsel roles, does firm prestige matter? For example, would the fact that an applicant is from Sullivan & Cromwell vs, say, White & Case matter at all, or is it much more about experience/interview? I have been offered a position in-house at a $500M-$1B company, mid-sized city LCOL, 10 YOE in private practice. They offered me $120k, w opp for undefined discretionary bonus. No paid parental leave or 401(k) match & only 1 week PTO in first year (but claim they have discretion for more). Is there any way to salvage this? Salary guides suggest TC should be around $200-215k. I want to get my foot in the door but this seems crazy low.
