If I have $375k in my 401k at 35, is there any reason to keep contributing? I leave $375k alone for 30 years and that’s going to already be a decent retirement

I would. What if the 2000s happen again and the market is flat for 10 years?

You could save more, retire earlier. Start focusing on your post-tax investments after maxing your tax advantaged retirement accounts.

like

Yes it’s 59.5 to avoid the 10% early withdrawal penalty without exception.

like

Depends on your goals. For example, do you want to retire early? If yes, then you may be able to dedicate resources to an account that wouldn't be susceptible to early-retirement withdrawal penalties. In those types of accounts, it's good to build a portfolio of companies/funds that you plan on holding for a long time to reduce tax liability (i.e. don't want to keep paying taxes on sale of assets to allow returns to be compounded).

Could do Roth. Withdraw principal tax free if needed and it’ll never be taxed again. Better option than just brokerage, which has cap gains.

Agree

With inflation that money could be very little in 30-35 years from now. So if you take inflation into consideration, keep investing.

Went from .62% from last year to 2.24% so far this year.

Depends. What else do you plan to do with the money instead.

Why wouldn’t you want to take advantage of tax benefits (either now with traditional or later with Roth)?

I would at least take advantage of the match, that is free money you are leaving on the table that employers consider as part of your total compensation package.

1. Tax savings on amount you contribute. 2. Won’t have enough in 30 years as inflation will take a big bite out of your savings. Alternatively you can buy properties but it’s more work :) But you do you!

I’m currently at a mid tier firm as an experienced senior, just under five years in PA. Joined as a lateral hire about a year ago and compensated above market. I want to focus on tech industry but scheduled on all type of industries from nonprofit, healthcare, manufacturing, food and beverage and etc. it’s very hard to get out of the engagements I’m currently on and switched to tech exclusively. Should I consider moving to Big4 for better opportunities?

I’m at the end of my rope. My AMD went on maternity leave a month ago and at this point, it doesn’t seem like they’re going to get a temp replacement. I’m expected to work up and put together plans for 2022 almost all on my own while taking time to train new AMPs and MPs. My director expects me to delegate to them when they have little to no background. I know I should probably start looking elsewhere but I feel like with the Great Resignation, it’s going to be the same anywhere else.

I’m being considered for an an Assistant Controller role and have a final “meeting” with the Controller and VP of Finance. The recruiter let me know Im the only remaining candidate being considered, so the Controller and VP of Finance want to talk on Friday to discuss long-term strategies for the accounting department and company, the immediate challenges facing the team, and any other questions I may have. Other than compensation/benefits questions, is there anything I should ask them? (cont)
