If I have only 12 months left in my visa and no i140/priority date (perm process in progress at current employer) , is there a point in applying to other companies even if they do new hire day 1/month 1 gc application ?

Google starts the process on day 1 for GC, and follows a Batch processing approach. What this does is cut down on a few steps of the perm process (create a JD, post JD, interview and cool down period etc), and the PERM gets approved in <6 months. From there, it’s a premium I-140 application, which u get in a month (2 weeks prep plus 2 weeks for the approval). What I’m saying is, IF a company starts on Day 1, and IF they follow a batch process approach, you will for sure receive your approved I-140 in less than 8 months. I’ve done it twice at Google (once when I joined from B4, and once when I changed roles and location), and each time I got the approved I-140 in less than 6 months. ATB!

Thanks all for the information. Due to personal reasons I wasn’t even able to start job search earlier even though I very badly wanted to. And now when I’m ready the timeline is risky. I came here to validate. Anyway Looks like the safest option is to wait for i140 before making switch.

Not sure how many firms will be willing to hire you with just 1 year left on H1b

Ok. That means I’m stuck here. Thanks. 😞

@Google1 : Okay. But what you went through is pre COVID, correct?

Nope, during Covid. My second GC application concluded in November ‘21.

Even if it takes 6 months, it will still take 2-3 months to join a new firm if anyone starts applying from this moment ! I would be happy to be at my current firm and look once I have my i140. OP I am in the same shoes and i know it’s frustrating.

I realized post-interview the recruiter might have me in the interviewer loop for the level below what I was targeting. I know I should’ve asked or they should’ve shared, but that didn’t happen. I wouldn’t accept an offer at the lower level. What should I do? Wait and see if I get an offer and negotiate, or alert them now?

Been in advertising for 12 yrs and at my agency for 4 in LA. I've been able to add to my book at current job. My chat with a big agency regarding a CD gig will likely result in an offer. The acct I'm interviewing for is more challenging, they have done a couple of award-winning work, but no long track record of it. Book pieces aren’t guaranteed. It's a promotion and a 40% salary jump. Isn't it time to start chasing a bit more money? My book is good, but no major awards. Am I making a mistake?

Ladies! Looking for advice I've been waiting for my visa to move to the states for over a year already, and it seems it may be another year. I live in Toronto where we're pretty much on lockdown, sports are out, I've been really depressed for years and have nobody here anymore (largely why I wanted to move and meet new people) How would you spend this year without travelling or meeting new people if you were me?
