WLB is supposed to be terrible - routine calls with asia at odd hours, v aggressive targets and timelines, heavy management oversight.
Apple supply chain is its differentiator and Tim
spent a lot of time in this area so its almost a 24x7 kinda gig
I’m staying away. Thx!
I worked with the apple GSM group for several months during an engagement, would stay far away
Thx!
Interviewed for GSM role but withdrew after doing more DD online. It’s a high burn role with GSMs regularly working 5am - midnight, working weekends, calls with Asia in the middle of the night, etc. High level responsibility as you’re solely responsible for sourcing/negotiation/pricing of a particular component (e.g. iPad touchscreen panel). If any issue arises, it’s on you to solve with seemingly minimal support. Very little progression or exposure to other parts of the business as you’re just focused on your component. Recruiters mentioned that GSMs generally stay doing the same work for 10-15+ years on end - didn’t seem like there’s much mobility to other areas within Apple, and also seems that you’d be pigeonholed into only supply chain/procurement roles - all in all was not appealing to me. Comp is around 150-160k base, lots of ex-consultants (associate/consultant level)
150k with how many years of experience? Sounds a good number to me. Will they offer green card sponsorship?
Stay far away if you value your life outside of work
Wanna refer to your vertical?

Very limited mobility outside of other ops/SCM roles from what I understand. Poor WLB compared to rest of industry.
This is a top supply chain though -- if you do it, sets you up to go anywhere in that direction.
Thx! Great insight
I’m sitting pretty at a t2 firm going for my first promotion atm. I’m not even gonna waste the day on final interviews as the base they are offering would be lower than my promotion base. Thanks all for the insight. I’m gaining so much experience in a breathe of places and SC siloh is the opposite of what i want with my career even if it’s the best SC
Sounds like a good decision to me - they’re notorious for lower pay as if the “reward of working at apple” is enough 🙄
I would be surprised if Apple didn’t allow for mobility within their org. Most big companies want people to move around to learn the business.
That is interesting EY1. Never worked for Apple but have worked for FT100 companies and most want good people to get experience in the business. But I guess Apple doesn’t view it that way.
Interested to learn more about internal mobility at Apple given how teams are very vertical
