I go down this rabbit hole every year, mother's day likely the trigger. Anonymous fish friends... please tell me your thoughts/ concerns/ hesitations if you were dating an attractive, fit, financially independent, home-owning, professionally established and successful woman with joint custody of a 5 yo? Curious to understand differences between men with kids and men without. To clarify, not so interested in what younger men think. Don't hold back... I can take it. TY

When drafting a brief or other work product, do you all double space after a period and citation? It seems this style is employed more so in the federal courts, but I’m just curious to see what everyone else thinks. I know it’s a preference or style thing; I just want my writing to be outstanding. So, I am wondering if it’s more proper to adopt this style. To me, it makes the writing product more organized and easier to read, that’s why I ask.

If an agency is a family (as they say), it would be an emotionally distant parent who would gaslight you and make you feel bad about yourself.

How the hell do I get out of this industry and still make a living? Unlike most people I’ve met in this space, I don’t come from a rich family that can support me if I decide to pursue something more soulfully fulfilling but less fulfilling financially.

To do IVF or not to do IVF... that is the question... I got pregnant about 6 months ago on my first medicated IUI and miscarried. Did 3 more IUIs with no luck. My RE has recommended IVF but I have zero insurance coverage (though I have hit the threshold for tax deductibility). Not sure if I should spend the money, keep trying with IUI, or just stop all together. I already have a healthy child, and I'm knocking on 42. Thoughts?

My situation & looking for yall’s opinions: We came into this country as immigrants last year and bought our first house with our savings (House was 410K , put down 100K down payment) in Dallas. But, we don’t have much in way of investments and only have 25K in savings + 15K in both of our checking accounts . We have a toddler and a new born baby. I was making $140K and contributing 7% to my 401K which puts me only at the 8K mark for this year. I’m 34 and felt so stupid after reading a lot of the smart decisions folks are making here.

Given my unique situation and desire to play aggressive catchup and be more financially savvy especially for the sake of our kids; my wife (25 y/o) will start working next year (110K) and I got a second job (140K) to essentially double my income .

Other than maxing out our 401K, What practical steps should we both start taking immediately to a) play catch up and starting building that wealth ; and b) to reduce our taxable income as much as possible since we’d be at ~ 400K household income next year?

Hi everyone - I’m relatively new to Dallas and starting my home search. It’s me + wife + baby with hopes of at least 1 more in the future. Can someone give me some ideas as to which neighborhoods are friendly for young parents / working professionals? Any inputs on Richardson, Carrollton, Far North? Areas to avoid? Other areas worth exploring that are not too far north? We’re trying to stay close to the North Dallas tollway / turnpike for work. Thank you!

For those of you that have a really different life than your family of origin, how do you deal with it? My own family is ok - nothing horribly traumatic, middle class upbringing, but a lot of chronic issues I have worked hard to improve upon in my life and my marriage. My sisters life is pretty unstable, and my mom is very difficult. Some days I feel I should live my own life that I built, and others I feel I owe it to them to show up more (financially, emotionally, time and energy).
