Unpopular opinion: the latest changes to H1B visa program are acceptable and ultimately serve a good purpose in the long run.

Stem extension comes with additional grace period on top of the 90 days. H1b grace period is 60 days.
Ok sorry maybe I mixed up grace period and unemployment period. The 90 day plus some additional is days you could be legally unemployed. Grace period should be when your visa expired (whether F1 OPT or H1b) you could legally stay in the US, which is 60 days for both status. H1b does not allow unemployment, unlike OPT, so as soon as you become unemployment the 60 day grace period kicks in and you need to either leave US or start another job with 60 days.
Max you can be out if job on OPT is 90 days from what I know.
Since the above post was a bit misleading originally, let me make it clear:
- On OPT, you can be unemployed max 90 days on the entire OPT period. Period. So be careful with accumulating too much voluntary unemployment
- On H1B you can’t be unemployed. At all.
