Laid off: you get unemployment checks. Quit: you don't.
^ you don't collect unemployment if you're fired with cause, that's the whole point of putting someone on a PIP. You leave a paper trail to give to the state case worker when the person files for unemployment, and the fired employee loses.
Start looking immediately It is easier to find a job when you have one. Take PTO or find a way to delay the event. Call the recruiter you met in the intern process. Set up lunches Get moving and stop thinking about $50 cell phone benefits ! Nickels in the sofa when you are talking about your career
@pwc1 you can still collect unemployment even if you're fired with cause. I got fired and collected unemployment for 5 months while I passed the cpa exam.
Depends on your state. Look up the laws. You would be MUCH better off getting laid off. You will automatically be granted unemployment benefits which will only be lost if they fight it, which most companies will likely not do. If so, there is a whole appeals process. I know someone who was fired for punching someone in the face, and they still got unemployment.
Deloitte 2 Someone is butthurt 😂 Because I was eligible doesn't mean I took it, and finding jobs can be difficult sometimes, get off your high horse captain morals. Just as bad as these microaggression baby's
If you get fired, you might receive some sort of severance package (although small) versus quitting you get nothing. In either situation you get paid out in PTO. Idk if it's to your advantage to use the PTO to collect an extra paycheck instead of having it paid it out. I would thinking the goal (as sad as it sounds) would be to be laid off, collect a severance, and your unused PTO.
Ps take advantage of any expense policies you haven't used up. I.e $50 cell phone accessories allowance
Yeah the time it takes to milk benefits is a complete waste of your time. I'm looking to leave and go from $60k to $80k - you shouldn't spend time on immaterial crap.
Much better psychologically to control when you leave than be pushed. Speaking from experience.
Even if you are fired you will receive unemployment unless you did something illegal depending on your state. I was fired here in CA, received 6 weeks severance, and unemployment as a staff 2 (one month into staff 2)
staff Accountant 1- I am glad the welfare state we call CA was able to help you out at the expense of the other folks who work in CA, but if you are ok with it , I would rather avoid government handouts and manage my career/ take preemptive steps to avoid ever being fired
I don't have micro aggressions. I have raving bugged eyed fits! By the way you said"I received unemployment as a staff 2"
If you hate the job just quit doesn't worth it
Only if the company chooses not to fight it. The whole point of firing with cause is so that they do not see an increase in their unemployment taxes. Source: ran my own business before joining public, had to fight shitty employees claiming unemployment.
What makes you think you may get fired? Can you please provide some insight? Thanks
In what situation a layoff will happen? Due to the staff's poor performance or low utilization? Thank you!
I may be wrong but I thought layoffs occur due to market/staffing conditions
