If I took time off to attend a funeral (approx. 2 days), does that count as PTO, or can I code it to bereavement?

I had to take 3 days off for a funeral last year. I coded under bereavement. At EY, you’re allowed 3 days off under bereavement for funerals of direct family members. Not sure what the policy at deloitte is. Should be similar.

In fact I think at EY it may be five days? When my dad passed away I had to go out of town to set up the funeral, I’m pretty sure HR told me five days bereavement code. Either way there definitely is a code but I think you need to clear it with HR. Of course we are both EY and not Deloitte so take it with a grain of salt. Either way, good luck and hang in there 👍

I got 3 days for my dad. I added PTO but it was rough.

I would put it as bereavement. I took a few days last year for a funeral as bereavement without issue.

Bereavement. I’d maybe make sure your resource manager knows you aren’t going to hit your scheduled hours though. They’ve historically been very understanding in my experience

Does an uncle count as direct family member ? I had to fly out of country last year for his funeral, and didn’t have any more days off. I literally worked midnight - 8am every day (time zone difference). Nobody thought to mention to me about this bereavement leave!! ??

Odd. At the very least you should have gotten 1 day.

I used bereavement leave for a close uncle, but I also went in to the office first and couldn’t stop crying. Working was clearly not an option.

I’m a 2nd year and effectively just ran a deal on my own with the partner. Generally there is one or two mid levels above me, and I find it way harder to do my job when they are managing me. They like to keep me on the bench, get me to do minor tasks and don’t let me take responsibility and ownership.
