If I were to transition into PM from a very non-PM background, do Agile certifications help? And what’s the usual pay range for more of a junior PM role in NY?

They do, but certs and courses are mainly for your benefit. Try Coursera or Udemy or General Assembly to get started with some courses.

The way I always talk about this topic is basically that certifications are one (effective) way to get the base knowledge around agile and/or product management, but not a particular differentiator when it comes to actually landing the job (except in that it helps you use the terminology correctly). If you learn well in that type of program and don’t mind paying for the knowledge, it can definitely make sense to pursue them. For people switching from a totally different background, it can also help to have at least something related on the resume to demonstrate your intent. That said, there are free ways to get the knowledge, so it’s a trade off. Decide what is best for your situation

I’m mostly referring to online courses such as MOOCs that focus on product or agile concepts (disclaimer...I haven’t done them myself, so I can’t recommend a specific one, but have researched them in the past, so I know they’re out there), or significantly less expensive options like books you can read.

I would just do your research on Google using the key terms you want to learn about. There is a ton of content published on agile and product concepts/frameworks.

About $80-90k base

They do but from my experience none of them truly teach how to break down your vision into digestible lego like pieces to work from small mvp to full blow features or products.

It’s truly an art that takes practice. Designers are going to want to build the biggest baddest design that has all the bells and whistles and look polished. You’re going to need to understand how to manage that and more importantly create an MVP from the design that you can use to validate your hypothesis, learn from it, get some lead indicators, and understand what you need to iterate on. Sometimes you just need to can it as well.

I lead a team of women (ranging from 2-8 years into their careers) and want to advocate for their career growth with management. I’ve made the case for promotions and raises (have been pushing for this for months and keep being told “soon”—but I won’t give up), but I also want to try smaller asks and would love suggestions. Are there any books, one-off classes/trainings, virtual events, memberships, etc. that you’d recommend? Thank you!

Serious Q: i keep hearing that the pipeline hasn’t materially changed and that there is a ~5% difference right now. We also laid off people. Partners are taking a pay cut. What are the economics of not giving anyone a raise? Is it basically as a hedge against future earnings?
