If I'd want to move from midtier to B4 as a new staff 2, would I be in line with making senior come promotion time?

Consider whether it's really a good choice to push for it. Better to take an extra year and be a high performer than go too soon and struggle

I don’t see why not as long as you are preforming well. Especially if you take on senior type responsibilities and show that you are ready for the promotion.

Really depends on your experience. I know one staff like that that basically had to redo her first year ( she was started with new hires) and it took 2 years to become a senior.

It also depends on your practice, your hire date relative to promotion season, and the firm you’re coming from. If you’re coming from a large mid-tier (ie BDO, HCVT, GT), you should be fine to promote. However, from my recruiting experience in tax, new hires from smaller firms typically get knocked back a year when they start at big 4. For example, a senior 1 would come in as a staff 2. But bottom line: if you’re a high performer and have most of the year to prove yourself before promotions hit, it’s more likely than not that you’ll promote.

Yes, you should be as long as you’re performing well.

24 yrs old, Macc, 1.5 yrs PwC tax experience, 1/4 done with CPA. Salary still capped at 55.5k. Just received an experienced tax accountant offer from a company for 75k with 10% bonus after 1 year, same promotion structure as PA (SA,Manager, etc.). I should probably take this right? I believe a top tier SA on my PwC team with several years experience was making 75kish.

Hello. I’m planning to apply for 2022 intake. Do y’all think leaving big 4 for a mid size firm would hurt admissions chances? I would be able to spin more responsibility and being more involved at a management level as the practice is much smaller. Not looking at m7 but I am looking to go abroad to UK or top 25 in US.

In meetings where you don’t have anything to say of value... do y’all say something random or repeat something just so your voice is heard, or do you just stay quiet? I get feedback that I’m quiet in meetings but honestly- these meetings are boring and usually have nothing to do with me. When I have something to say, I speak up..otherwise I’m doing other (more important) work.

Recruiters, what are your thoughts? I've now had 2 strange encounters where they have contacted me. The first one was an hour late on call, and the second never called after scheduling. Is this normal? I remember when I was more junior and the recruiters were punctual and professional, but these past few experiences have disappointed. I have gotten job leads from networks or leads from colleagues, but I thought I'd give recruiters a try to see what else is out there.
