Keep in mind that your housing cost is more than just your mortgage - you need to also consider homeowners insurance, property taxes, HOA fees, repairs, utilities, closing costs, PMI if you don't out down 20%, etc. It adds up pretty quickly and only you can decide if it's worth it to you.

You need to consider all the costs on renting vs. owning (see A1’s post), the opportunity cost on investing in a home vs. e.g., equities, and transaction costs along your time horizon
Yes, renting is “throwing money away” on the face of it, but it still can be better when you consider the above
