If I’m a former creative trying to make the pivot into the PM (severely burnt out and never enjoyed the work to begin with)….how do I make that leap?

I’m willing to start at the bottom as if I was fresh out of school. Just struggling to find the opportunities

I'm a former Graphic Designer, and I've been where you are. Being a Creative PM is a fairly new role, and didn't exist when I was first in the game. I struggled quite a bit applying for other marketing related roles, and continously was turned down because hiring managers didn't believe I'd "be happy not being creative." Honestly, it was a stroke of luck that broke me into the perfect niche for me. A small company specifically wanted a former designer that understood design process, but didn't want to design anymore. Please feel free to DM me, I would gladly like to connect and share any lessons I've learned along the way. I've worked in both NYC and Chicago markets, corporate and agency on both the design and PM sides.

Yes!! This^ these is Huge value in know what your asking the creative team to accomplish! Use that when looking for a new position. And it’s better to leave your current position and start at a higher salary. I’ve been thinking about this route myself. But what the pay rate? For a beginner?

Where are you based?! We’re hiring and i’d love to talk with you about this. Feel free to DM me.

I feel like agency/advertising experience is invaluable and then it’s just a matter of learning a few skills

I agree on the internal move. Create an alliance with your current PMs. Plant the seed so if there’s an opening for entry level, you could get considered. Not sure how your company works but your department head might have a problem if you leave an open spot but if you’re with a good company they’d give you a chance to do this if it means keeping you. Good luck!

I think asking for an internal transfer may be the ticket in but also, lots of companies have introduced PC or APM roles. Curious to why you want to go into PM though?

What about PM interests you? One way to get started without changing jobs is to see if there is potential opportunities in your current company. You could ask your manager if you could also help with managing a few projects on your own (or work with your PM more closely) while still doing what you need as an art director.
Some companies may let you expand your role that way, because everyone benefits. You get experience that you want, and they get someone helping out beyond what they normally do.
It’s about positioning yourself so they can see that it’s actually a good deal for them.

Not out to my family, colleagues and most of my friends. I live my live quite freely and I haven’t had a GF so people could guess but they don’t. I don’t feel comfortable coming out yet and I don’t really like the concept either but there’s diversity survey we must fill and as a small company people would 100% be able to guess it’s me if I say I’m LGBT, or even prefer not to say when the aggregate stats are shown. I don’t wanna lie and say I’m straight though. What do I do?

Ok, maybe this has been done before, but I want to get a real life sense of the difference between EPLI and Private L&E (management side) practices. Let's do a poll:

1.) Primary source of business: EPLI or Private Companies?

2.) Number of matters you are currently working on

3.) Average billable rate (your year)

4.) Normal working hours/wk

5.) Percentages: Litigation vs Counseling

6.) Type of firm: ID, Big 4, Boutique, BigLaw, etc.

I'll kick things off in comments.

More often than not, PM owns the tasks of ensuring their team and agency log their time, but I argue that it is not our sole responsibility. Other than including job numbers in subject lines, statuses and meeting invites, how do you encourage your teams to log tine weekly (regularly)?

Wanting some advice. I manage higher up’s close friend and they are not qualified to do the work. I have been trying to steer the person in the right direction for weeks, & they don’t take feedback well and blame others. The irony here is in past reviews my strongest feedback has been my relationship building skills.

NYC - 5 yrs PM experience at tech startups / unknown agencies. Unhappy at my company, want to move to a more established ad agency. Struggling to break into it. Any tips please?

I’m from the Account side but I’m looking to switch things up in my career and move over to Project Management. At my current agency the role I have been holding doesn’t seem to have that type of transition opportunity. Due to that lack of flexibility I have been searching for hybrid or remote options. The idea presented itself a few months ago when I was recruited by an agency slightly larger than my own. I made to the top three but was not selected for the position. Any leads advice welcomed!

I started a new full-time job 3 months ago. My teammates only escalate small mistakes to my boss; I rarely get positive feedback on the things I go above and beyond on. I have a review coming up this week, and I don’t feel secure. A role that I applied to pre-covid became available. I got a verbal offer last week. Should I leave a full-time gig for a temp-perm one? I’ve killed myself to implement constructive feedback but I’m scared it wouldn’t be enough.
