If I’m a Tax Senior and I want out of tax, what are some accounting or finance positions I might be able to get? What tax experience is relevant enough to push for a better position?

I’ve always heard it’s tougher to transition out of tax than audit, because tax is too damn specialized. But that doesn’t mean it’s impossible. I would try to look at positions such as senior financial analyst or senior accountant to help you get the non-tax experience in order to make it to management down the road. Your reasoning is almost the most common reason why a few of my colleagues got out of tax after a little over a year. Good luck.

What office are you in? Have you heard of media and entertainment advisory in EY? The grass is greener.
