If I'm on H1B and start an MBA program in Fall 2018, can I quit early and take the summer off and stay in the States? Or would I have to go back to India for that period? OR is it better to keep working until the date on my new I-20? Purely from a legal perspective, not financial.

Sorry I1, I failed to see the corrective action when you generalized a genuine question as 'typical desi' mentality and presuming to a conclusion that 'no wonder h1bs are in trouble'. We all come from the same land, if it's not too much of an ask show some compassion to your fellow folks!!

Wow, why so much heat I1? Chill, OP was just trying to gather others' perspectives on his situation. You sound as if OP was speaking from a position of false privilege and entitlement. 🙏🏼

like

I1 you truly were showing heat. Filling voids of ignorance should be done by answering with facts, and not by showing aggression.

The validity of your H1 is tied to your employment status.

like

Not an expert in this area. But off the cuff, you would go out of status when you quit your employment. You would be better off (and safe considering the DT admin) sticking on your job until your MBA program starts.

Switch to F1 and stay back for summer

like

You can take a break between the two. I think you can safely take at least a month before the start date on I20, maybe longer

like

I think there was a recent change on how long you can stay in the country "unemployed". I remember reading it as 60days. Might be worth looking it up.

Typical desi. Always trying to cut corners. No wonder H1b in trouble

like

E1: Yeah I just learned it's 60 days but anything more than 30 can spell trouble. I1: Don't understand how this is cutting corners - just trying to find out if I can take a vacation before starting business school. And don't forget you're a desi too, even if you're starting to feel like an ABCD 😘 E2: I'm not actually IN business school yet, just trying to figure out my 2018 situation. Are you starting in Fall 2017?

like

PwC OP- same here

like

PwC op. I checked with several university officials, you need to work until atleast 30 days prior to program start date as mentioned in i20.

like

I1 You know nothing about mine or my family's situation. My question clearly implied that I didn't know the answers and wanted to ask others who might have some answers without hiring an attorney so early. If you want to feel like a big guy/girl, please take your outrage elsewhere, troll.

like

How the hell does anyone one take vacation in H1B? That too a vacation after quitting job. Until your GC, there is no freaking way you can come out of H1 and this even after getting EAD. First understand the fundamentals of H1B. Maternity moms are losing jobs unable to travel with babies and not being able to take sabbatical and that situation is no different than you wanting vacation by quitting. Your only option is to move to F1.

Correcting or filling voids of ignorance isn't showing heat

E2: that's really helpful! It sounds like I might not have a choice but to keep working. I just wanted to see if I could bring my mom over and actually spend some time with her before I disappear for two years. Oh well :/

Troll is truly a skillset for you genteel sensitive dumbfucks
