If my last day is Jan 24th and my new job starts Feb 10th what happens with my health insurance in between? Anything I can do to keep the health insurance or do I have to buy my own until the new job?

Just go without health insurance for the 2 weeks. If you find that you later need health insurance, you can buy Cobra retroactively for up to 90 days.

Ask HR. They will have the correct answer for you. Normally it covers you until the end of the month. You can maybe jump on a Cobra plan for 10 days and not have to pay anything depending on how the Cobra works.

COBRA

Cobra

Usually, your ins will keep until 1/31. That’s only 9 days without, assuming that your new job offers it right away (which is not always the case)

Nope, new insurance would begin March 1st

Thanks for the replies! I'll look into Cobra for time in between, appreciate all the help!

Again, don’t actually sign up for Cobra. Just know that you have 60 days from when your current employer’s coverage ends to sign up for Cobra, and Cobra signups are retroactive to when coverage ends. So only actually sign up if you incur medical expenses that would exceed the cost of Cobra during the period between coverage ending at your first job and coverage starting at your new one. You might also want to get 90-day supplies of any medications before coverage ends at your current job.

I’m curious to hear from people at other firms what is offered in terms of part time work or alternative work options for people that don’t really care about making partner and might want to work part time. I just had my second child and want to ask to come back from maternity leave on a part time basis but our firm doesn’t seem to have anything in place right now. If your firm offers this, what’s the billable requirement, how much of a pay cut is it, and do you still get benefits? Thanks!

Are there any good ways to make money outside of a typical career job? I’ve tried audit and currently in advisory. The job just makes me depressed, and I’m thinking the accounting space just isn’t for me. My husband works, so I don’t have to worry with medical benefits etc if I quit. I’m realizing I have a lot of fear—mostly related to health stuff and death. Feel like people are getting sick left right and center (not talking about covid). I’ve never had anyone close to me become very sick or die—don’t know what I would do if this happened. I’m also overly concerned about my health and seem to be at the doctor every month to get something checked. Can anyone relate or provide suggestions on how to overcome something like this?

I spent the last 3 months "growing up" & now I'm ready to go. 1st thing is for me to get my own place. I'd like to buy instead of rent because I don't want to pay someone else's mortgage. I'm thinking of selling my car & cash out some of my 401k to buy a house. My thought is to put down 3.5% for a FHA loan then make a big payment towards the principal to reduce long-term interest. Anything wrong with this thinking or anything else I should consider?
