OP: in that case, he should be scheduling it earlier if there are tasks that truly need to be completed that day. I used to have an end of day meeting but it was understood that it would mainly define the activities for the next day or be handed off to the offshore team
Yeah, that’s messed up. If this is his project, I would doubt him not having time earlier in that day for this meeting. I’d talk to him and ask if the meeting could be moved earlier (1pm) and the 6pm call is just a checking stuff off the list exercise. Or if that 6pm call should really be a 9am call so that you guys have the entire day to work on it if it needs to be completed by EOD. How is it when the manager is not remote?
lol. Sorry OP. I have no more words. Hopefully your go-live is coming up soon...
He would be pissed if the team wasn’t taking it together in a conference room and was individually dialing in
Why? What a d*ck. Who cares? It's definitely the latter then.
What time should he be scheduling the check-in? End of the day sounds like a good time to be checking in
Because 6:00 is when he’ll review stuff and start assigning new work that “needs” (doesn’t actually need) to be done by “EOD”. There’s a reason for all this... and it lets him have control even when he’s not on site to pressure people to stick around
Is everyone traveling in to the client site or is this a local project for most of the team?
A bit of both
Agreed. But like I said, this isn’t to close off the day. This is because the “second half” of the day doesn’t start until 6pm
When the manager isn’t remote he always assigns a new task at like 6pm
Every day is go-live on an “agile” project. Aka no scope!
What city are you in?
OP, sounds like you already have an answer.
Has anyone talked to him about it?
Would he be pissed if you bounced early and dialed in remotely for the 20min call? That should answer it...
@OP even if what you think are his motivations are not the case, the fact that you feel that way means there are serious problems with his management style. This whole chain makes me sad.
When did 6:00 become “early “?
M3 It’s a good day when I can leave at 8pm 🤷♂️
