Just arrived to Sydney from Chicago with my wife and 2 sons both under 2. Escorted to hotel quarantine and spending these 2 weeks trying to figure out if I would/could/should make the move to Sydney permanent. Wife and kids are Australian citizens. I know most of you worked really hard to get to where you are. MD, Partner, Director, SM, etc. Was this your goal when you started your career journey? How did your hard work yield success? Can you relax now without having to work as hard to continue being successful or keep making more money?

Is it typical to get a year end raise, even if you are not getting promoted? For example, I’ve been at my current rank for one year and am close to next level. My value is higher since I am more experienced but still billed as a senior analyst. Is it reasonable to ask my employer for a raise? My reasoning as follows:
- My work quality has significantly improved since last year
- 90% utilized this year
- Current pay is below market value
- No harm in asking
